French biologist and chemist (1822-1895), famous for his discoveries in vaccination, microbial fermentation and the process that bears his name, pasteurization. Autograph letter signed, one page, in French, dated in Paris in 1876. Pasteur writes to a colleague about a position as assistant professor, "I tried hard to find you a post among the assistants of the School, as you wanted, but at present the position pays too little and offers little of a future". Size is 5.25 x 8.1 inches, minor folds, in excellent condition.
