American actor (1931-1955), widely remembered as a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment, as in his most celebrated film Rebel without a Cause (1955). He also acted in Giant (1956) and East of Eden (1955). Dean was the first actor to receive an Oscar after his death, plus 2 nominations - he died in a car accident at age 24.
