Famous French-born mezzo- (1808-1836), one of the greatest singers in her time, who died at age 28. Autograph letter signed as Maria de Beriot, her married name. in French with postcript in English, to a doctor. This is probably from around the mid 1830s, close to the time when she passed away.
One page, handwritten on both sides, minor creases, tear from top margin, not affecting the text, undated. Malibran expresses that she is complicated by "the impossibility in which affairs have prevented me from going to embrace you all...We accept with great pleasure the opportunity to have offered us of spending some hours with you. Every day I have thought of visiting you, but the devil has shoved his tail and all my plans have been sunk...".
Both a full translation and a transcription are provided, together with a vintage print of Malibran. Very rare!
