Dutch cellist (1816-1902) and virtuoso of his instrument and composer, worked mostly in Paris. Autograph music quote from an unknown piece, inscribed and dated in Utrecht, Holland in 1852. Size is 6.2 x 4.5 inches, central fold, in very good condition.

Italian violinist and composer (1818-1897). Short 4-bar autograph music quote from an unidentified work signed by him and dated in December 1859. Size is 3.4 x 2.7 inches, folds, creases, in overall good condition.

French violinist (1778-1861), first violin at the court of Ferdinand VII of Spain. Autograph note in French (untranslated) signed by him, dated March 9, 1829, addressed to the dramatist Théophile Marion Dumersan (1780-1849) about an upcoming appointment.  Size is 8 x 4.8 inches, rust stains, creases, in overall good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an autograph document signed by him, dated May 17, 1828, an Annual grant accorded to the violinist by the “Fonds de réserve” of the Département de Beaux-Arts. In 1821 the composer Carl Maria von Weber conducted a concert in Berlin, in which Boucher was a performer, playing Weber's Variations on a Norwegian Air, to which he added his own cadenza. In April 1822 he visited Ludwig van Beethoven; at the occasion, the composer wrote for Boucher a piece for two violins (WoO 34 in the Kinsky–Halm Catalogue).

German violinist (1869-1933), a great interpreter of Paganini and to whom Sibelius originally dedicated his famous violin concerto. Fine black and white photo postcard signed by him, dated in Berlin in 1922. Size is 3.25 x 5.25 inches, in excellent condition. German-Swis violinist (1891-1952), conductor, and composer. Larger-size sepia photograph of the violinist shown young in performance, mounted on a mat signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment. Size is 13.4 x 10.1 inches, minor stains, in overall excellent condition.

French violinist (1873-1928), pedagogue, and composer. Sepia photograph of him mounted on a photographer mat where he signed and inscribed, dated in Paris, 1911. Total size is 8.9 x 11.8 inches, some stains both on the mat and the photograph, minor creases, in good condition.

Spanish cellist and conductor (1876-1973) who enjoyed an international reputation as a soloist and conductor.  Typed letter in French signed by him, dated in Prades, June 23, 1955, to violinist Nona Liddell MacMahon (1927-2017). Size is 5.3 x 8.3 inches, 1 page, letterhead of Prades Festival, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a black-and-white photograph of the cellist in performance, dated 1964.

Spanish cellist, composer, and conductor (1876-1973), regarded as the pre-eminent cellist of the first half of the 20th century, and one of the greatest cellists of all time. Belgian cellist (1840-1915); Australian-born pianist (1864-1952). Set of two semihard cardboards signed by Ernest De Munck, Marguerite de Pachmann,  violinist Wilma Neruda, British comedian George Grossmith and other artists such as Eleanor Rees, Sophie Robertson, and others.  Size is 9 x 11.25 inches each, irregularly cut left border, in very good condition. Ukrainian-born American violinist (1891-1967) famed for his passionate style, beautiful tone, and impeccable artistry and musicality. French violinist (1933-1982), toured in performance and recorded extensively during his very successful career, before ending his life by suicide. Beautiful black-and-white photograph signed by him, shown very young in performance. Size is 5.5 x 3.5 inches, in excellent condition.

German cellist (1849-1918) and conductor, who world-premiered Wagner's opera "Die Feen" posthumously in 1888. Gorgeous photograph mounted on a photographer mat, signed and inscribed by the cellist with a short sentiment on top, dated in Barcelona, 1902.  An original photograph by A. & E. F. Dits Napoleon, Barcelona.  Size is 6.5 x 8.8 inches, some water stains and a pinhole over the top, in overall very good condition. Rare!

French cellist (1906-1986), praised for his talent and peculiar majestic sound. Attractive biography of Fournier signed by him on a "front matter page" just before the title page. Short (34 page) book including all pages and covers, published by Rene Kister, Geneva, with many attractive photographs along with text (including reflections by Fournier himself). Photos are by Roger Hauert, text written by Bernard Gavoty. Size is 7 x 10.5 inches, some tears on the cover, otherwise in very good condition. 

French cellist (1906-1986), praised for his talent and peculiar majestic sound. Wonderful black-and-white photograph signed by him, shown in performance, dated in 1981; ink-stamped on verso by photographer Felicitas, Munich. Size is 5.8 x 8.1 inches, dated by someone on verso with ink on October 31st, 1981, in excellent condition.

French violinist (1863-1916). Lot of five autograph letters in French (untranslated) signed by him, dated between 1899 and 1900. Letters are addressed to musicians such as Mademoiselle Blanchard and concern rehearsals of music pieces of Joachim Raff and Mozart, upcoming trips, and other private matters.  Different sizes, lengths, in very good condition or better. French violinist (1849-1895) and composer, best known for his opera "Jocelyn", 5 symphonies, and other works. Two important biographical autograph letters in French (untranslated) signed by him, both from 1880, addressed to his future wife Madame Godard. We report an extract as a sample. 25/7 1880: “…j’ai été charmé de la bonne journée que j’ai passée avec vous et votre aimable famille; je vous remercie de votre cordiale réception. Je vous envoie par le même courrier trois morceaux pour le piano (…) Pourrai-je me permettre sur le titre du morceau de mettre à mon élève M.me Feydeau ?…”.  Each one has 3 written pages in one folded sheet, open size is 10.5 x 8.2 inches each letter, folds, creases, dirt stains, in overall very good condition. Italian cellist (1880-1952) and conductor.  Signed photograph, inscribed by him dated in Bologna in 1926.  Photo size is 6.5 x 7.5 inches, mounted on cardboard (signature is on the cardboard directly beneath the photo), total item size is 9.75 x 14 inches, with some creases at the bottom corners of the cardboard, otherwise in good condition.

Lithuanian-born American violinist (1901-1987), a superstar performer for decades,  Heifetz focused on teaching after a long, highly successful career as a performer. Card signed by him and dated 1928. Size is 3.9 x 2.5 inches, in excellent condition.  

Hungarian violinist, composer, and music teacher (1858-1937). Autograph music quote signed by him, dated in 1897, with three bars from an unknown piece over an album page. Size is 8.25 x 6 inches, in excellent condition.

Polish violinist (1882-1947), known for his individualistic interpretations and praised for his tone color, expressiveness, and flexibility. Very fine autograph letter in German signed by him, dated July 14, 1917, to composer Eugen d’Albert, concerning the organization of a tour of concerts. Size is 5.6 x 8.9 inches, 4 written pages, with letterhead, storage holes, creases, some smudges, folds, in overall very good condition. Partial translation: “… Based on your letter of June 9, which I received yesterday, I had a conversation today with the concert director Wolff-Sachs to include the 3 Polish concerts in the sonata tour. It turned out that this is hardly feasible if you do not give us 2 days in February for the 2 Munich sonata evenings, which Sachs wants to give within the 10 concerts he has taken over. I want to spare you with the individual dates and hall commissions in this matter and share only the result. Provided that it will be possible for you to schedule the 2 Munich Sonata evenings earlier, I propose the following data plan to you…”. 

Polish violinist (1882-1947), known for his individualistic interpretations and praised for his tone color, expressiveness, and flexibility. Regular postcard with a Christmas theme signed by him in pencil with a short sentiment. Size is 5.3 x 3.4 inches, in excellent condition. 1-page program for a performance in Switzerland, in 1939, signed by him, under the baton of Fritz Busch. Size is 8.2 x 11.6 inches, holes, cracks, in overall goo condition. ALSO INCLUDED is his unsigned photo postcard. Size is 3.3 x 5.3 inches, in excellent condition.

Hungarian violinist (1831-1907), conductor, composer, and teacher who made an international career; widely regarded as one of the most significant violinists of the 19th century. Contract with a music school signed by the violinist as "Joseph". Size is 8.1 x 12 inches, folds, in very good condition.

Ukrainian-born violinist (1887-1934), also composer, teacher and arranger, his career developed early in Poland and the UK, later mostly in the United States, being very important in the music scene. Rare signed photo, inscribed, with a short sentiment, dated in New York in 1922. Size is 8.1 x 10 inches. A photo by Underwood & Underwood Studios, New York, small loss of paper over the top left corner, minor creases, in very good condition. Rare.

Czech violinist (1883-1950), composer, teacher, and disciple of Otakar Sevcik. Beautiful black and white photo postcard signed by him, shown young. Size is 3.6 x 5.5 inches, mounting traces on verso, in very good condition. Rare! Czech violinist (1883-1950) and composer. Fine black-and-white photo postcard signed by him, shown as a teenager, dated in Prague, 1906. Size is 3.5 x 5.4 inches, mounting traces on verso, in very good condition.

Star Austrian-born American violinist (1875-1962) and Dutch conductor (1871-1951). Album page signed by both artists on the same page (Kreisler above, Mengelberg at the center with a short sentiment dated on July 21, 1933. There is a third and unknown signature over the lower border of the page, inscribed to the American photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt. On verso there are 5 additional signatures: Walter von Holländer (screenwriter), Sepp Allgeier (German cinematographer) plus three additional unknown signatures. Size is 5.5 x 7.6 inches, 1 page, small holes, otherwise in excellent condition.

Austrian-born violinist and composer (1875-1962), one of the top performers of his time.  Stunning black and white photograph signed by him, shown with his instrument; inscribed to famous singer Martial Singher, dated in 1946.  Photo is ink-stamped on verso by photographer Management Co.  Size is 7.9 x 10 inches, minor damage over the top, in very good condition. Fine black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated in 1935 adding a 2-bar music quote from a fugue by J.S. Bach, mounted on a mat.  Total size is 5 x 6.2 inches, some silvering, in overall very good condition.

Polish violinist and actor (?-1942) who died in the holocaust at Treblinka Concentration Camp.  Fine black-and-white photo postcard signed by him on the front and also on its verso with a short sentiment in Polish.  Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, minor silvering, small crease over the lower border, in overall very good condition.

French violinist (1841-1909) and conductor.  Set of 2 autograph letters signed by him, written in French (sold untranslated).  The first one is a 3-pages letter, dated 1901, size is 4.5 x 7 inches, in excellent condition.  The second one has no year and its size is 4.1 x 5.2 inches, in excellent condition. French violinist (1874-1934) and composer, who obtained Swedish citizenship in 1915.  Beautiful photograph probably trimmed from a larger format, shown young, signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment, dated on September 10, 1898.  Size is 4.1 x 5.5 inches, in very good condition.

The Metropolitan was founded in 1883 as an alternative to the previously established Academy of Music opera house and debuted the same year and moved into a new location at Lincoln Center in 1966. Gorgeous photograph of a performance circa 1991 conducted by James Levine at Carnegie Hall, and signed by more than 75 artists (NOT SIGNED BY LEVINE). Total size is 20 x 16, actual photo is 13.5 x 10.5 inches (visible window size). This is the only photo we have ever seen that has been signed by more than 75 artists. Very rare!

Autograph letter signed, 3 pages, dated in London in 1875, written in Italian and sold untranslated. Size of each page is 5.25 x 8 inches, in excellent condition. 

Italian cellist, teacher, and composer (1822-1901) whose full name was "Carlos Alfredo Piatti", actively performed for over five decades, and composed several cello pieces. Autograph letter signed by him, in Italian, sold with translation and transcription, dated in London, July 8, 1854, to a friend about the personal and music business. Size is 5.4 x 7 inches, 4 written pages in one folded sheet, in very good condition.

Two autograph musical quotes signed on a single 8 x 8.5 inch album page from both Alfredo Piatti (full name "Carlos Alfredo Piatti"), Italian cellist, teacher and composer (1822-1901), dated in 1880, and Charles Halle - Anglo-German pianist,  conductor, and founder of The Hallé Orchestra in 1858 (1819-1895), dated in 1884. Rare vintage item in excellent condition!

The album page is also signed by the Moravian pianist and composer with some handwriting over the top quoting two lines of Shakespeare.  Size is 9.25 x 11.4 inches, in excellent condition.
