Schirmer in 1943 to conmemorate the 60th birthday of his president, famous French-born American pianist, musicologist and publiser Carl Engel (1883-1944). This is copy number 177 of a total of only 300 that were made, and is signed by Carl Engel himself who dedicates the book to star conductor Fritz Reiner - with a short sentiment ("To and old friend"). 234 pages including articles about Engel, music topics, and some with photos. Mengelberg signs on the first page, writing in German "war ein genie" ("was a genius") under Mahler´s printed name, and dating in Budapest, 1941.
