A book of photographs of a ballerina´s hands, with phrases taken from Shakespeare works. A delightful, poetic piece. 32 pages plus covers, 1981, published by Eastman Moebs. Only 700 copies were printed, 6.5 x 9.25 inches, in new condition. Book is not signed, signature on the cover is part of the printed image. Preface by author says: In January 1979 one part of the Bolshoi ballet toured throughout France. Godounov, his wife Vlassova, Timofeyeva, Golikova, and Prokofyeva danced "Love for Love", a choreography of Vera Boccadoro on Shakespeare´s "Much Ado about Nothing". During the entire tour I photographed the principal dancers and sold their pictures at the exit of the theatres. Looking for other themes, I noticed a young ballerina, Miss Irena Nesterova, who was positioned from time to time up-stage among the corps de ballet, and whose flowing hand movements harmonized with the steps of the lovers and with the music...

Original children´s book by Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) with illustrations by Nikolai Kupreyanov (1894-1933), published in Moscow, 1929, 16 pages, original color lithographed wrappers, 7 x 8.5 inches. Very rare children´s book by the author of "Doctor Zhivago", long before he wrote his Nobel Prize winning novel. Pasternak was already known as one of Russia´s greatest poets, and wrote only 2 books for children, both after the birth of his first child. "Zverinets" is a long and little-known poem about the animals of the zoo. Although poet Marina Tsvetaeva called it "a brilliant bestiary", the book was not successful and Pasternak admitted that he really couldn´t write for children. Nikolai Nikolaevich Kupreyanov was an important Soviet graphic artist whose short career came to a sudden tragic end when he drowned in a river near Moscow in 1933. Very rare! Original children´s book by Boris Pasternak (1890-1960) with illustrations by Dmitri Mitrokhin (1883-1973), "Karusel", published in Leningrad, 1926, color lithographs, 12 pages, original lithographed wrappers, 8 x 11 inches, in excellent condition. Very rare picture book by Pasternak, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, now best known for his novel Doctor Zhivago, and considered one of the greatest poets of the 20th century.  Remarkably, Pasternak composed only 2 poems for children, "Zverinets" and "Karusel", inspired by the birth of his son in 1924. D. Mitrokhin, who created the illustrations, was one of the few members of the World of Art Group to remain in the USSR, and became one of the most important Soviet graphic artists. However, he illustrated relatively few children´s books, and this maybe his masterpiece. There is a lightness of touch free of any Marxist propaganda that distinguishes it from most of the picture books of the New Economic Policy, while the influence of Matisse in the illustrations is evident. See scan of front cover and central pages.
