Signed Books

Italian novelist, critic, philosopher and academic (1932-2016), famous for some of his books, especially for "The Name of the Rose", first published in Italian in 1980, and in English in 1983.  This novel received numerous international awards, and was later taken to the screen in a famous film of the same name (1986). Signed book "The Name of the Rose", 1983 edition in English language, Eco signs and inscribed this copy on the title page above the book title. A total of 502 pages, hardcovers and dust jacket, 6.4 x 9.4 inches. Book is in excellent condition, dust jacket shows signs of wear and a few cracks.

Cuban-born American singer (b.1957), actress, and businesswoman; eight-time Grammy Award winner. Richly illustrated children's book "Noelle's Treasure Tale" authored and signed by her on the frontend page and over the CD which is also included; published by Harper Collins, New York, 2006. Duchess of York (b.1959) and former wife of Prince Andrew of the United Kingdom. Her book "Finding Sarah" signed by her on the front end page, dated in 2011; first edition by Atria Books, 2011.  Size is 6.25 x 9.25 inches, 315 pages, hardcovers, dust jacket, in excellent condition.

British ballet dancer (1919-1991), considered by many one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century. Book "Margot Fonteyn" authored by Anthony Gordon signed by him and Margot Fonteyn on the first page.  Size is 6.1 x 9.75 inches, printed by Phoenix House, 1950, 132 pages, hardcovers, no dust jacket, limited edition of 250, in very good condition.

British ballet dancer (1919-1991), considered by many one of the greatest dancers of the 20th century. Signed book "Fonteyn - The Making of a Legend", a book by Keith Money. Fonteyn signed and inscribed this book on the title page, opposite to a full-page photograph of her. This is a larger size book mostly with photographs from her life, including captions and some text, first US edition by Reynal and Co., New York, 1974, a year after the first UK edition. A total of 318 numbered pages, hardcovers, dust jacket, 10.25 x 12.5 inches, all in excellent condition.

American politician (b.1944), attorney, businessman, who was the 107th Mayor of New York city (1994-2001), Giuliani was politically first a Democrat, then independent, and then (since 1980) a Republican.  Signed book, leather-bound series of signed books by Miramax Books/Hyperion, New York, first edition 2002. This is signed copy 148 of a total of 1000, signature is on the first blank page, 407 numbered pages, gilded edges, hardcovers, 6.4 x 9.4 inches, in excellent condition.

First English edition of the score, printed by Novello (1882), of this oratorio by Charles Gounod.  Signed by Gounod on the first page, score book comes with a program from the Birmingham Choral Society for a performance of The Redemption in 1905-06. The Birmingham Choral Society world premiered this oratorio in Birmingham in 1882. Score is 7 x 9.9 inches, 174 pages, in excellent condition, playbill is 4.9 x 8.5 inches - see scans.

French composer (1799-1862), well-known today for his opera La Juive (1835).  Printed score for voice and piano for his opera in 5 acts "Le Juif Errant" (The Wandering Jew, 1852), successful work and one of his last operas. Luxurious red hardcovers engraved with the name of the person Halevy dedicated this to, Jules Janin. Published by Brandus, Paris and London, dated by Halevy in ink in 1853. Boldly signed by composer Fromental Halevy on the title page, where he inscribed this to famous French writer and critic Jules Janin (1804-1874), who was a composer himself. Large volume, 10.75 x 13.5 inches, with 340 numbered pages plus extras, some spotted rust, wear on covers, in very good condition.  

American writer (1921-1992), and author of the famous novel "Roots" (1976), later adapted as a TV miniseries.  Signed book "Roots", inscribed and dated by him in 1979, with a long sentiment mentioning Kunta Kinte, the main character of his famous novel. Hardcovers, first edition by Doubleday & Co., New York, 1976. Dust jacket with some cracks, book is in excellent condition.

American jazz percussionist (1908-2002), and bandleader, active between 1927-2002. His autobiography "Hamp: an Autobiography" written together with James Haskins; signed and inscribed on the first title page with a short sentiment by Hampton.  Published by Warner Books, 1989, 1st Edition, 286 pages, illustrations, hardcovers, dust jacket.  Size is 6.2 x 9.25 inches, minor stains of the front end page, in very good condition.

American author (b.1948), and film producer, and the widow of English musician George Harrison of The Beatles, active since 1972. British music author (1951-2017), journalist, consultant, and broadcaster.The Rolling Stones are an English rock band formed in London in 1962, active across seven decades, they are one of the most popular and enduring bands of the rock era. Haver's book "Rolling with The Stones" signed by him and by The Rolling Stones' bassist Bill Wyman on the title page, published by DK Publishing (London), first American edition (2002). Egyptian archaeologist (b.1947) and former Minister of Antiquities Affairs in his country. Luxurious edition of his book "Tutank Hamun: Treasure of the Golden Pharaoh" signed by him on the second page behind the title page; with gorgeous photographs and information. American cartoonist and author (1909-2001), known for his commentaries on domestic and foreign policy, his artistic name was Herblock. Signed book "Through the Looking Glass - The Reagan Years in Words and Pictures", first edition, 1984, published by W.W. Norton and Co, New York. 287 numbered pages with many full-page caricatures, hardcovers, dust jacket. Signed by Block on the frontend page, size is 6.4 x 9.5 inches, in very good condition.

American actor (1923-2008) and political activist, who appeared in almost 100 films over the course of 60 years. His book "The Actor's Life" signed and inscribed by him on the front end page; published by Henry Robbins, New York, 1st Edition, reprinted 1978, including black and white photographs at the center.  Size is 6.5 x 9.5 inches, 482 pages, hardcovers, dust jacket, in very good condition.

New Zealand mountaineer and explorer (1919-2008) who became the first climber to reach the summit of Mount Everest on May 29, 1953. Book "The Conquest of Everest" by John Hunt signed by Edmund Hillary, and three other members of the 1953 expedition to Mount Everest George Lowe, William Hazlett, and James Morris, in the frontend page.   Size is 6 x 8.75 inches, 300 pages, dust jacket, hardcovers, first American edition by E. English celebrity chef (b.1965) and talk show host who has appeared on and hosted a variety of Food Network programs. His book "Impossible to Easy" signed by him on the frontend page; published by William Morrow, first edition, 2010.  294 pages, lot of full color illustrations and photographs, hardcovers, dustjacket, in excellent condition.

French Bass-baritone and voice teacher (1860-1930), his book signed by him on first page, inscribed to his friend Jules Martiny, who wrote a famous book on the history of the Theatre in Liege, Belgium.  Published in Brussels by Schott Freres, 1890 - first edition, 720 pages. Red leather, rubbed and worn, original wrappers bound in. Signed on first page by the authors, complete, a fine copy. Size is 7.9 x 11.25 inches. Also included is an unsigned half-tone photo of Isnardon, shown in Faust, mounted on light cardboard, total size is 6.9 x 10.5 inches.  Signed copies of this book are very rare.

Canadian photographer (1908-2002) known for his portraits of notable individuals, he was described as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century. His book "Portraits of Greatness" signed and inscribed by him on the frontend page with a long sentiment, dated December 1963.  Size is 9.75 x 12.1 inches, first edition (1959), 2nd reprint (1961), 207 pages, hard covers, dust jacket, in very good condition.

American biographer (b.1943), historian, former sports journalist, and political commentator. Her Book "The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism" signed by her on the title page, published by Simon & Schuster, New York (2013), first edition. Size is 6.5 x 9.5 inches, 910 pages, illustrations, in very good condition.

American author, disability rights advocate and political activist (1880-1968). Keller lost her sight and hearing before she was 2 years old. Her signed biography "The Story of My Life", originally published in 1902, this is the 10th printing by Dell Publishing Co., New York, 1965. Helen Keller signature is on the full title page. Soft covers, 416 numbered pages, 4.1 x 6.3 inches, some wear and minor stains on covers, in very good condition.

American composer of musical theater and popular music (1885-1945), considered one of the most important American composers for theater music in the first part of the 20th Century.  Signed score for his theater musical "Music in the Air" (read more HERE), first edition, 1933, published by T.B. Harms, New York. Kern signed this printed score for voice and piano on the title page, and inscribed it to custom designer Madi Christians. Size is 8.75 x 11.5 inches, softcover, 216 numbered pages plus extras, spine is partially loose and repaired with tape, in overall very good condition.

American author (b.1947) of horror, supernatural fiction, suspense, crime, science-fiction, and fantasy novels. Signed book "Four Past Midnight", inscribed and dated by him in 1993 on the frontend page. First edition, 1990 by Viking Penguin, first printing, 763 numbered pages, dust jacket, 6.5 x 9.5 inches, hardcovers, in excellent condition.

Star Russian pianist (b.1971), his book "Memoirs and Reflections", boldly signed by him on the frontend page. Published by ForeEdge, 2017, hardcovers, dust jacket, 190 numbered pages, in excellent condition. Also included is a program for a concert in Chicago in May 2018, with a ticket stub to meet Kissin after the concert (not shown). All in excellent condition.

Complete book by Irving Kolodin, over 600 pages, condition: like new. Published in 1953. Signed on first page by Lucine Amara, Roberta Peters, Mildred Miller, Margaret Roggero, Giulio Gari, Janet Collins, Zachary Solov, Paula Lenchner, Genevieve Warner, Osie Hawkins, Met manager Rudolf Bing and conductor Max Rudolf. Tenor Brian Sullivan signed on inner cover, opposite than all other signatures.

American historian (1934-2015), best known for his lawsuit against the National Archives and Richard Nixon, which won the release of the tape recordings in relation with the Watergate scandal. Signed book, inscribed and dated in 1993, with a long sentiment, first edition 1990, published by Alfred A. Knopf, New York. A total of 731 numbered pages plus hard covers, dust jacket, all in very good condition. Signature is on the frontend page, 6.75 x 9.5 inches.

American cartoonist, animator and producer (1899-1994), creator of the character "Woody Woodpecker".  Signed book by Joe Adamson, Lantz´ signature is on the frontend page, 254 numbered pages with many black and white illustrations, hardcovers, dust jacket, 6.25 x 9.2 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian opera composer (1857-1919) whose opera Pagliacci (1892) is considered one of the most successful in opera history.  Complete score for voice and piano of his opera "Pagliacci" signed and inscribed by the composer with a short sentiment, dated in February 1909.  Score is 9.5 x 12.3 inches, 204 pages, edited by Sanzogno, Milan, 1893, first edition; soft covers partially trimmed at the top and rebound with hard covers, in very good condition.

Russian-born French dance journalist and writer (1887-1933). Book "Marie Taglioni (1804-1884), signed on the first blank page by Levinson, and inscribed to famous Austrian novelist, playwright, journalist and biographer Stefan Zweig (1881-1942). Published by Librairie Felix Alcan, Paris, 1929, one of only 100 that were printed on paper Lafuma pure thread. Book was rebound with new hard covers, of which the spine is missing, original covers are inside. A total of 141 numbered pages, a few illustrations, 5.75 x 8.2 inches, in very good condition.

French tenor (1844-1937), then baritone, and later a vocal teacher; most famous for creating the role of Don Jose in Bizet's Carmen. Early-1900s vocal score edition of Bizet's "Carmen" genuinely signed by the French tenor in the 1930s with a short sentiment in French, "In remembrance of my creation of Don Jose". Lhèrie added at the top a fake signature of the composer Georges Bizet and plus a short sentiment. The vocal score was published by Choudens, Paris, no date (circa 1910), 363 pages, size is 7.75 x 10.9 inches, non-original hardcovers, in very good condition. Autographs of Paul Lherie are exceedingly rare to find -this is a fantastic item to collect!

French ballet dancer and choreographer (1905-1986) of Ukrainian origin, one of the greatest ballet male dancers of the 20th century. His book "Dance", version in Spanish ("La Danza"), boldly signed by him and inscribed on the first title page, dated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1950.  Translation into Spanish from the French original, published by Ed. Siglo Veinte, Argentina, 1947. A total of 290 numbered pages, dust jacket, hardcover. Dust jacket is in fair condition, book in very good condition, 6.5 x 9.2 inches.

Russian-born French dramatic soprano (1860-1936) who was particularly associated to Wagnerian roles. Litvinne developed a fantastic career in Europe and later became a voice teacher. Autobiography book, entitled "Ma Vie et Mon Art", in French, published by Librairie Plon, 1933. Signed on first page by the star soprano, inscribed to one of her students, American singer Cecilia Mitchell. Size is 4.75 x 7.5 inches, complete with all 292 pages plus covers, minor water damage on front cover, binding and pages in excellent condition

American screenwriter (1889-1981), playwright and author, mostly known for her successful novel "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". Loos wrote many of the Douglas Fairbanks silent films. This book was later adapted twice for film, once for a silent 1928 film, then in 1953 for the famous movie with Marilyn Monroe. Signed book, published by Brentano´s, Ltd., London, one of a limited edition of 1000 books, each signed by the author, 1926. Book is signed twice, once on the dedication page, with a small drawing, and inscribed probably to her husband, film director John Emerson (1874-1956), and once on the opposite page (see scans). Hardcovers, gilded edges, with illustrations by Ralph Barton, 217 numbered pages. Size is 5.5 x 8.5 inches, some water damage at the bottom with some pages at the end glued at the bottom, in good condition.

American singer (b.1958) and songwriter, known as the "Queen of Pop", widely recognized for her continual reinvention and versatility in music. Illustrated book "Lotsa de Casha" for children (above 5 years old) signed by her on the first printed page, issued in 2005, with illustrations by artist Ruy Paes. Size is 8.25 x 10.25 inches, 48 pages, dust jacket, hardcovers, in excellent condition.

American novelist, journalist, essayist, playwright, activist, film-maker and actor (1923-2007).  Signed book "Marilyn - A Biography by Norman Mailer - Pictures by the World´s Foremost Photographers". Signed by Mailer on the first title page, inscribed, with a short sentiment, dated in April 1974. Mailer writes an interesting message "To Dick Garlottas, cheers - and drinking here, Norman Mailer, April 1974". A total of 270 numbered pages with text and lots of photographs in color and black and white, published by Grosset & Dunlap, New York, first edition, second printing.  Size is 9.5 x 10.75 inches, some wear on covers and soiling/stains on main title page, clean inside, very good condition.

Russian prima ballerina (b.1940) and choreographer, whose performances were considered standards of artistry and aristocracy of dance, marking her as the finest ballerina of her generation in the West. Book "Ballerina" authored by Richard Austin, published by Dance Horizons, New York, 1978, First Edition, signed by the Russian ballerina on the first title page. Size is 6.25 x 9.5 inches, 139 pages, hardcovers, dust jacket, in excellent condition.

American novelist and short screenwriter (b.1948), especially noted in the science fiction, horror, and fantasy genre. A Souvenir book for the "ConFrancisco" -51st World Science Fiction Convention) held on September 1993, signed by the author on the last page along with many other different authors.  Size is 8.5 x 11 inches, 168 pages, softcovers, in excellent condition.

American novelist and short screenwriter (b.1948), specially noted in the science fiction, horror and fantasy genre. 2 volumes of a graphic novel "A Game of Thrones", successfully taken to the screen in the famous series. Volume 1 is signed by Martin on the title page, while volume 2 is signed by Martin and graphic artist Mike Miller, also on the title page.  Books are full of colorful illustrations presented as comics, and each is 6.8 x 10.5 inches, hardcovers and dust jackets, in excellent condition.  Sold per separate. Italian opera composer (1863-1945), mostly remembered today for Cavalleria Rusticana and L'Amico Fritz, among other creations. Complete score for voice and piano of his opera "Amica" (1905) signed by the composer in the full title page, inscribed to baritone Riccardo Stracciari who performed the star male role in the Italian premiere of the opera in Rome, 1905 (the opera was premiered in France in March 1905) -in both cases conducted by the composer himself. Mascagni wrote "to the unforgettable "Rinaldo", to the dearest friend Riccardo Stracciari with affection and admiration. Pietro Mascagni, Rome, May, 1905". Size is 10.4 x 12.8 inches, 183 pages, French edition (1905), original soft covers included -rebounded within hard covers, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an unsigned photograph of Stracciari as Rinaldo and soprano Biancapelli. Size is 6.2 x 8.4 inches, in very good condition.
