    Famous German Wagnerian tenor (1856-1898), very admired in his time who had a short but very successful career in both Europe and America. Alvary retired in 1897, at the peak of his career, due to a serious accident during a rehearsal of Siegfried in Germany. Alvary died the next year at age 42. Signature on card, dated by him in 1896, just before he retired, mounted in a mat with a beautiful late 1800s print, showing him as Siegfried (one of his most famous roles). Also part of the set is a rare ORIGINAL cast page clip from a Met Opera program for a performance of Siegfried in 1889, with Max Alvary performing in the title role. Total mat size is 17.25 (width) x 18.5 inches (height). Card with signature is 3.25 x 1.75 inches (visible window size), vintage print of Alvary as Siegfried is 7.5 x 11.5 inches (visible window size), Met Opera program clip is 4.25 x 8 inches (visible window size).
