Large original etching of a rehearsal of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Felix Weingartner, 1926. Location: Musikvereinssaal, Vienna.

A beautiful vintage print created by Austrian engraver and photographer Ferdinand Schmutzer (1870-1928). SIGNED IN PENCIL BY THE ARTIST.

Also included are pages with information about the identities of each of the 51 musicians depicted.

A number of texts have been written regarding this exceptional print, notably “Der Musiker Portraits of Ferdinand Schmutzer” by Barbel Holaus (Vienna, 2001), in which she discusses the artist, this print, and numerous other musicians and composers, and identifies each of the 51 musicians in this composition. Schmutzer captured the creative talents and personal demeanors of musicians and other famous personalities of his time (The Rose Quartet, Albert Einstein, Rudolph von Alt, etc.).

This print measures: plate size 575 x 740 mm, on a sheet 743 x 960 mm, matted to 32” x 40”. Originally issued in an edition of 50, with a second edition of possibly fewer than 75.

A small card accompanying this item reads: "Presented to Egon Gartenberg by Mrs. Alfred Rose, the artist´s daughter (niece by marriage of Mahler) - April, 1980".

Pages with names and scheme with numbers are included.

A truly fantastic, rare vintage print that will look great if framed. Condition is very good, with a very minor crease over the top right edge, the rest is in excellent condition.
