English writer (1874-1936), philosopher, theologian and literary and art critic, Chesterton was a highly respected thinker of his time.  Signed book "The Ball and the Cross", first edition, Wells Gardner, Darton & Co., London, 1910. A total of 403 numbered pages, 5.25 x 7.5 inches, green faded covers, a crack on front end page, ownership stamp behind from cover.  Chesterton inscribes the book and writes a very humorous phrase ("I implore you read no further. This is the one sentence of Oxford English in this book"), and signs below. Book is inscribed to who probably was the wife of famous English architect Percy Richard Morley Horder (1870-1944).  In overall very good condition.
