French dancer (1850-?), first ballerina at the Theatre de la Porte Saint Martin. Autograph letter in French signed by her, dated February 14, 1867, addressing a secretary: "... I shall be much obliged to you if you can get two seats in my favour for this evening". Size is 4 x 5 inches, 1 page, in very good condition.

American bass (1901-1975), singed photo, shown as King Arkel in Debussy's Pelleas et Melisande, inscribed (in French), dated in 1931. Hand signed by photographer. Size is 6.25 x 8.25 inches, noticeable crease in center of photo, priced accordingly.

French general and statesman (1890-1970) who led the French Resistance during WWII, later let the government (1944-46).  His book "Memoires de Guerre", in 3 volumes, with volume 1 signed by him and inscribed to Maurice Noel. Noel was a French officer and painter, member of the French resistance, highly decorated for his actions. After painting a portrait for German Marshal Rommel, Noel obtained from him a special pass allowing him to paint the port and ships in the Saint-Breuc area. During 1943 and 1944 Noel sent regularly information which was studied in London. Arrested in 1944 by the Gestapo and sentenced to death, Noel was exchanged for a German General just a day before his execution.  3 volumes, only volume 1 is signed, published by Plon, Paris, 1954, includes some folded maps. Some stain on the signed page, some pages are not properly cut and separated, in overall very good condition. 

French general and statesman who led the French Resistance during WWII, later let the government (1944-46). Typed letter signed, dated in 1952, giving condolences to the wife of a recently passed friend. Letter is in one page, 8.25 x 10.5 inches, with his letterhead, comes with an unsigned photo, a modern print, 8 x 10 inches.

Canadian-American mezzo-soprano (1885-1958).  Autograph note signed, 1 page, written in English. The note takes up a 5.5 x 8.75 inch folded portion of a  much larger page whose verso contains a 1936 New York Times review of one of her concert performances (see scans). In excellent condition. 

Canadian-American mezzo-soprano (1885-1958).  Group of 3 autograph letters signed, each is 2 pages, written in English, and written in New York. Two of these letters have page sizes of 7 x 10.5 inches, the other letter is 5 x 6.5 inches, each have small creases and folds but are otherwise in good condition. Not sold separately.      

Canadian-American mezzo-soprano (1885-1958), and voice teacher. Gauthier was a friend of Ravel and premiered in America some of his works, as well as works by Satie and Stravinsky. Signed photo, shown next to Maurice Ravel, inscribed at the top. Photo has a printed (part of the photo) signature of Ravel, and is also printed an inscription by Gauthier that says next to Ravel´s signature "& Eva Gauther "Puppy", Le Belvédère in Montfort-l’Amaury 1931". That is Ravel´s house (today, it hosts the Ravel Foundation and museum). Size is 4 x 6.5 inches, jagged edges, in excellent condition.

French stage and film actress (1918-1982), active since 1938 until her death.  Beautiful black and white photograph signed by her, shown young.  Photograph is ink-stamped on verso by Studio Iris, Paris; size is 5.1 x 7 inches, minor creases, in overall very good condition.

Published by P., Soulié, 1845, with the ten iconic images of the most famous opera stars and ballerinas of the period (Grisi in Giselle, Elssler in Le Diable Boiteux, Taglioni in Sylphide, and Cerrito in Ondine, plus six opera singers (Sontag, among them).

French violinist ((1822-1878), composer, and teacher of Music History at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1872 until his death. Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated July 1868, to a gentleman, recommending his friend the pianist and composer Jules Meilhan "... He is a friend of mine and, as you will see, a quite remarkable artist...". Size is 5.2 x 8.1 inches, 1 page, overall rust tone, light smudge over ink, in overall excellent condition.

Was known throughout her career as "Madame Gavaudan", reflecting her marriage to a leading tenor of the Opéra-Comique, Jean-Baptiste-Sauveur Gavaudan. Autograph Letter Signed, 2 pages, size is 5.25 x 8 inches, signed as "M. Gavaudan", written in French, sold untranslated. Vintage and rare historic item in excellent condition!
