    French general and statesman (1890-1970) who led the French Resistance during WWII, later let the government (1944-46).  His book "Memoires de Guerre", in 3 volumes, with volume 1 signed by him and inscribed to Maurice Noel. Noel was a French officer and painter, member of the French resistance, highly decorated for his actions. After painting a portrait for German Marshal Rommel, Noel obtained from him a special pass allowing him to paint the port and ships in the Saint-Breuc area. During 1943 and 1944 Noel sent regularly information which was studied in London. Arrested in 1944 by the Gestapo and sentenced to death, Noel was exchanged for a German General just a day before his execution.  3 volumes, only volume 1 is signed, published by Plon, Paris, 1954, includes some folded maps. Some stain on the signed page, some pages are not properly cut and separated, in overall very good condition.
