Belgian composer (1808-1869), mainly active in Paris. Lot of six autograph letters in French (untranslated) signed by him, addressed to the journalist Monsieur Campan, to the director of Opéra Comique Émile Perrin (1814-1903), the theater critic Charles Deulin (1827-1877), the librettist Thomas Sauvage (1794-1877) and mostly concern arrangements for meetings, theater seats, and private matters. We report an extract as a sample, concerning his opera “L’Eau merveilleuse” (1839) : “…Mes répétitions avancent, mais [Jacques] Féréol et moi désirerons que vous y v… aujourd’hui à 1 h (…) J’ai perdu les paroles de l’air de Tartaglia, aurez vous la complaisance de me la donner si vous vous en souvenez…”.  Different sizes, lengths, and conditions (see scans provided), in very good condition or better. French operatic composer (1837-1904). Two autograph letters in French signed by him: one dated in Compiègne, November 8, 1858, and the other one from 1880 ca. Letters concern music publishing and acquaintances, one letter is addressed to the director of the Théâtre des Folies-Dramatiques in Paris Victor Blandin (1824-1898). We report two extracts as a sample: “…je vous envoi les dédicaces qui seront demain sur les trois partitions de Sophie Frandin et [Noémie]Vernon - Il est très important que ces trois dédicaces paraissent dans le courrier de Prével…”. ; “…Quelqu’un de mes amis qui a parlé de moi à M. Offenbach me previent qu’il est tout disposé à entendre mon opéra et à l’examiner avec moi…”.  SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

ALSO INCLUDED are two unsigned photographs: one a promo movie-still photograph of the film The Rainmaker (1997) based in one of his novels; and the other, a half-tone photo of him.

Playbill announcing the performance of Rossini's opera "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" at Her Majesty's Theater, London, on May 19, 1849, starring the Italian contralto Marietta Alboni and bass Luigi Lablache under the baton of M.W. Balfe; and the ballet "Electra" featuring ballerina Carlotta Grisi. Size is 8.3 x 13.1 inches, central fold, minor stains, in overall very good condition.

Italian ballet dancer (1819-1899). Autograph note in French manuscripted by her and addressed to His Majesty's Theater's manager Benjamin Lumley (1811-1875), requesting the re-arranging of an specific performance according to her wishes.  Size is 5.1 x 8 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian soprano (1811-1869), creator of the role of Adalgisa in Norma, autograph letter signed by her, written in London. Three pages, plus a 4th with addressee, Mr Vatel, from the Theatre Italienne in Paris, stamps indicating this is from June 1842. In Italian, a translation into English is provided, Grisi is asking for permission to sing in concerts in collaboration with Giovanni Mario and Rubini, to make up their losses in that season.  Each page is 7.25 x 9 inches, folds, small loss of paper on page 3 and 4, otherwise in very good condition. Autograph letter signed, on the letterhead of the Villa Salviati in Florence. Two pages written on both sides of a 5 x 8 inches, in Italian, sold untranslated. Small tear on the left side of the front page and some pink rust at the very top, but in overall very good condition.

Size is 4.3 x 11.2 inches, central fold, in excellent condition.

Playbill advertisement for two performances of Bellini's Norma at the Metropolitan Theater, New York, on February 16th and 19th, (ca. the 1850s), mounted on hard cardboard (removable).  Total size is 8.25 x 14.25 inches, playbill size is 5.25 x 10.7 inches (visible window size), rust on edges, very fragile brittle paper, in overall very good condition.

Playbill for a performance of Lucrezia Borgia at the Boston Theater, January 17th, 1855, with star soprano Giulia Grisi in the title role, and star tenor Giovanni Mario as Gennaro. Interestingly, playbill announcement also states that signed librettos of the opera are exclusively sold at the theater. Size is 7 x 19.25 inches, some damage on borders, otherwise in very good condition, clean with almost no rust.

Program-libretto for a performance of Rossini's "Semiramide" (no date, but circa 1860s) featuring soprano Giulia Grisi and tenor Giovanni Mario. Size is 6.5 x 9.5 inches, in very good condition.
