Famous Dutch cellist and composer (1849-1913), started performing in the streets and was discovered by Michael Costa who hired him for this Covent Garden Orchestra. Van Biene later performed with the best orchestras in Europe and developed a highly successful career, died on stage in performance. Signed photo postcard shown with his instrument, dated in 1907. French dancer (1784-1858) of Italian ancestry who joined the Paris Opéra Ballet at age 17. Autograph letter in French (sold untranslated) sent to her fellow dancer at the Paris Opera Ballet Lise Noblet (1801-1852), dated 1824.  Size is 4.9 x 7.8 inches, 2 written pages in 1 sheet, minor stains, folds, otherwise in excellent condition.

French soprano (1855-1925).  She was invited by director Léon Carvalho to participate in his Opéra-Comique (1877), her debut as Isabelle in Herald's "Le Pré aux Clercs", reached a great success. She became one of the prima donnas of the Opéra-Comique and made guest performances at Monte Carlo and Brusselas.  Signed photo, shown as Jean de Nivelle, the role she created in the world premiere in the opera of the same name, by Leo Delibes, 1880. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches.

Austrian opera impresario (1902-1997), well-remembered for his 22 years as the General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera in New York (1950-1972).  Program for a performance of Verdi's Aida at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, on December 29, 1965, signed by him on the cover. Also signed by Mary Ellen Pracht and an unidentified other. Size is 8.1 x 10.8 inches, full program with all pages and covers, in excellent condition.

Small collection of letters by Rudolf Bing, plus photographs from the early years of the Glyndebourne Festival (1934-39). Collection includes: a) 39 letters by Rudolf Bing (1902-1997), who was one of the founders of the festival, and the first General Manager, to Hans Busch (1914-1997), Stage Manager during the first years. This includes 5 handwritten letters and 34 typed letters, most of them signed by Bing, b) two letters by secretaries, c) an envelope typed "Glyndebourne May-June 1934", with 16 original photographs of famous conductor Fritz Busch (one of the founders) and family, at the Festival, and another envelope with 6 more, and 2 negatives, d) one program for the Glyndebourne Festival 1939, e) 10 postcards of drawings of customs, in an envelope labeled "Glyndebourne 1937" (not shown), f) a carbon copy of a note to Audrey Christie, one of the founders, probably from Hans Busch, with interesting content, with an invitation to a lawn cocktail (no date), g) a few documents related to stage rehearsal scheduling at the Festival. American explorer, politician and academic (1875-1956). Hiram Bingham III is famous for bringing the ruins of Machu Picchu (Peru) of the Incas to the world´s attention when he discovered them in 1911, later becoming a US senator and Governor of Connecticut.  Signed book "Elihu Yale", about the merchant who gave the name to Yale University, where Bingham was an academic. First edition, 1939, by Dodd, Mead and Company, New York, hardcovers, 362 pages, Bingham signed and inscribed the book on the frontend page, with a Christmas greetings, inscribed, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an original National Geographic Magazine from April, 1913, the famous issue where his now celebrated 1912 expedition (sponsored by the NGS) and the discovery of Machu Picchu are described. A very long article which takes the entire issue, and includes 244 illustrations, magazine is 6.8 x 10 inches, in very good condition.
