French-born German pianist (1895-1956), renowned for his subtle touch, pedaling, and dynamic control -particularly in the music of Debussy and Ravel. Autograph letter in English signed by him and dated 1950. Size is 5.3 x 7 inches, three written pages in one folded folio, creases, folds, in overall very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a Diploma by Universidad de Tucuman signed by him, mounted on a mat (total size is 10 x 7.9 inches), plus two unsigned typed letters addressed to him. French-born German pianist (1895-1956), renowned for his subtle touch, pedaling, and dynamic control -particularly in the music of Debussy and Ravel. Autograph note in French signed by him, dated 1953, plus a specimen of dried mountain flowers applied with tape on an album sheet, with a note in the hand of Lyda Fournier “Promenade en Engadin 1951”. The French-born pianist was the son of a German doctor and lepidopterist, and himself had a collection of butterflies and moths. In this letter, which sounds as a dedication, Gieseking inscribes some tender words for the Fournier’s family : “...Je regrette d’être incapable de mentir (dans ce cas particulier, au moins) puisque c’est vraiment un très grand plaisir de rencontrer les chers amis Fournier – …”. From the “Album amicorum of Lyda Fournier, wife of the cellist Pierre (1906-1986). Size is 4.4 x 6.7 inches, 1 page, in very good condition.

Size is 3.75 x 5.75 inches, light folds over the four corners due to previous framing, otherwise in excellent condition.

Italian composer and pianist (1895-1938), who migrated to the US and was a member of the famous Elshuco Trio. Giorni was also an accomplished piano concertist and educator. His career ended short when he committed suicide at age 43. Large size photo mounted on mat (11.5 x 15.75 inches total size), shown young, by the photographer W.C. Noetzel (who also signed, in pencil), inscribed and dated in 1915. Giorni adds 3 bars from his Fantasia op. 21.  ALSO INCLUDED is a short autograph music quote by this artist, with 3 bars from an Andante for String Quartet, plus a program for a memorial concert held after his death, in 1938. Music quote is 6.25 x 7 inches, program is 4 pages, 5.5 x 8 inches, all in excellent condition.

French-born English pianist (1836-1922), one of the first pianists to play recitals from memory. Card with her signature (probably the last part of a letter attached to a larger piece of paper). Card is 5.25 x 1.2 inches in size, in good condition. RARE.

German pianist, composer, and conductor (1829-1907), known for his piano concertos and other piano pieces; and married star soprano Jenny Lind. Autograph music quote signed, inscribed with a short sentiment, dated in Rome in 1892. Size is 5 x 7.75 inches, in very good condition.

English pianist (1872-1951). Black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by her with a short sentiment dated in New York, 1909, mounted on a larger soft cardboard. Total size is 6.5 x 9.5 inches, actual photo is 4.3 x 5.8 inches, some silvering over the photo, in overall very good condition.

German-born British pianist (1819-1895), conductor, and founder of The Hallé Orchestra in 1858. Very fine autograph letter in English signed by him, dated August 26, 1882, where he addresses the Danish composer Johann Peter Hartmann (1805-1900), concerning upcoming musical engagements. Open size is 8.9 x 7.3 inches, 3 written pages in one folded sheet, central fold, letterhead, in overall excelent condition.

Anglo-German pianist (1819-1895), conductor, and founder of The Hallé Orchestra in 1858. Autograph note signed in 1879, in English, about an appointment, one page. Size is 4.4 x 6.9 inches, in very good condition.

Russian-British pianist (1879-1960). Fine 2-bar autograph music quote signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated in London, 1901. Size is 6.3 x 7.7 inches, in excellent condition. On verso, it is signed by violinist Achille Simonetti with a music quote dated 1902.

Austrian pianist, organist, Franciscan monk and chorus master of his church (1863-1914), signed postcard photograph, dated in Vienna in 1902. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, rare vintage photograph in excellent condition.

Hungarian pianist and composer (1813-1888) and teacher; a close acquaintance of many famous romantic composers of his time, such as Berlioz, Chopin and Liszt.  Autograph note signed by him, in one folded sheet, handwritten on both sides, showing blind letterhead with his initial on the first page. See scans. Heller writes to a friend (prob. composer Felix LeCouppey) mentioning he is about to leave for a visit to England, that he has been so busy finishing new compositions that he did not have a single free moment. He asks to give his regards to Mrs. LeCouppey and signs as St. Heller at the end. Size is 8 x 5.25 inches (unfolded size), or 4 x 5.25 inches (folded). Minor rust spots, otherwise very good condition, rare! Also included is a half-tone print with the pianist/composer image, probably from a book or magazine.

French composer (1794-1880), brother of Henri Herz. Autograph letter in French (sold untranslated) signed by him, dated 1879. Size is 5 x 8.1 inches, 1 written page, in very good condition.

British pianist (1890-1965), who became a prime favorite in the United States, not only as a soloist but also as a fine ensemble player.  Fine black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by her with a short sentiment. Size is 7.5 x 9.5 inches, small loss of paper on all four corners, minor silvering, otherwise in excellent condition.  

French pianist (1852-1933) and composer. Autograph letter in French (untranslated) signed by him, to a gentleman: “…je reçois avis d’une réunion qui doit avoir lieu après demain mercredi, Salle Pleyel, pour discuter certaines réformes à apporter dans le répartition de mes droits d’auteurs chez Souchon…”.  Size is 4.5 x 6.3 inches, two written pages, central fold, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an autograph letter signed by the composer Lucien Hillemacher, younger brother of Paul, concerning private issues. 3 pp. In-8.

Famous Australian pianist (1871-1951) and teacher, toured as a child prodigy, later perfected in Germany and settled in the US after 1914. Hutcheson provided important help to Gershwin when composing his Piano concerto in F, and wrote piano concertos and solo pieces himself. Gorgeous signed photograph, inscribed and dated by him in 1933, 8 x 10 inches, in excellent condition

Spanish pianist and teacher (1868-1943).  Beautiful photograph signed by him, inscribed to his pupil -later piano teacher herself, Helen Calbreath, dated in Berlin, 1909.  Size is 6.7 x 9 inches, in very good condition.

Star German pianist (1895-1991); considered one of the chief exponents of the Germanic tradition during the 20th century and one of the greatest pianists of all time. Typed letter in German signed by him, dated 1959, to the young pianist Pierre Fournier (1937-, known under his stage as Jean Fonda), son of the cellist Pierre. Size is 5.8 x 8.2 inches, 1 page, letterhead, envelope included, in excellent condition.

Danish-born Canadian pianist (1882-1945) and teacher. Set of 2 beautiful black-and-white photographs signed and inscribed by the pianist in 1924 and 1937 with a short sentiment. Sizes are 6.75 x 9.3 inches and 7.1 x 9.75 inches, some creases over the upper border in one of them, fading ink in one of them, in overall very good condition. SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

British pianist (1819-1901), court pianist to the queen of Hanover, and muse of Robert Schumann. Rare autograph letter in German signed by her, no year indicated, addressing a gentleman asking to get him a good messenger to send around with a "subscription list" for a concert she will give a few days later.  Size is 7.7 x 8.5 inches, 1 written page, no translation included, missing piece of paper at the top, creases, folds, in overall very good condition.

Famous Scottish pianist and composer (1868-1948), one of Franz Liszt´s best pupils. Signature mounted on a mat with a photo, dated by him in 1937, 4.25 x 2.25 (viewable window size), photo is 3.5 x 5.25 inches (viewable window size), ready to frame.

Polish harpsichordist (1879-1959) and pianist, whose performances and recordings greatly helped revive harpsichord music during the 20th century, and became the first to record Bach's Goldberg Variations on the harpsichord in 1931. Typed letter in French (sold untranslated) signed by her and dated in 1931. Size is 8.2 x 10.5 inches, 1 page, in very good condition. French music teacher (1811-1887), pianist, and composer, among others, of a series of elementary études for piano students. Collection of four autograph letters in French signed by him between 1843 and 1854. Here is a short extract as a sample: To Monsieur Fétis: "... I come sir, to ask you for a fresh proof of this same benevolence. You will receive at the same time as this letter a copy of my Studies, which I beg you to accept..." Russian pianist (1874-1944) and piano teacher, who wrote a short book in 1924 that is considered a classic: Basic Principles in Pianoforte Playing. Album page signed by him and dated in New York, 1938. Size is 5.9 x 4.1 inches, storage holes, in excellent condition.

German-American pianist and composer (1851-1914), after a successful career as a concert pianist in Europe, Liebling settled in the US and focused in piano education, was mostly associated with the musical life in Chicago. Set of 2 signed autograph letters, dated in 1902 and 1907, in English, with the letterhead of the Kimball Hall in Chicago. Letter dated in 1907 is handwritten on 1 sheet, both sides, 5.25 x 8.25, while the letter from 1902 is 8.25 x 11 inches, is handwritten in only 1 page, has some cracks but is in overall very good condition. Both are sold untranscribed. Also included are 2 small programs from 1906 and 1909, for a piano concert by Liebling´s pupils and a lecture piano recital by him, respectively. Sizes are 5 x 6.25 inches, 4 pages for the 1906 program, and 4 x 7.5 inches, 1 page for the 1909 program. Both have folds, in fair condition.

Hand signed on front and stamped on verso by photographer L. Sudak, Buenos Aires.
