Hungarian violinist (1845-1930), academic, composer, conductor and famous as a violin teacher. Among his many students were Mischa Elman, Jascha Heifetz, Nathan Milstein, Efrem Zimbalist, Benno Rabinof, Kathleen Parlow and other great performers.  Signed cabinet photo, inscribed to one of his most famous students, Kathleen Parlow, dated by him in Eisenach in 1906, where Auer spent his summer vacations and gave classes. Born in Canada, Kathleen Parlow (1890-1963) met Auer in 1905 in St. Petersburg, Russia, and took classes from him. This is a fantastic piece of violin memorabilia, with an autograph from one of the greatest to one of his later famous students. Auer autographs are rather rare and valuable. Size is 4.25 x 6.4 inches, an original cabinet photo by Elliott & Fry, London, trimming at the bottom taking probably 0.1 inches, repaired crack on the top left corner. Cabinet photo is mounted on a slightly larger black cardboard, to a total size of 4.5 x 6.8 inches and can not be detached. 

Spanish cellist, composer, and conductor (1876-1973), regarded as the pre-eminent cellist of the first half of the 20th century, and one of the greatest cellists of all time. 2-bar autograph music quote with music by Mendelssohn on a regular postcard signed by him (postal markings indicate the year 1910). Size is 5.4 x 3.5 inches, small crack over the lower-left corner, written address by another hand, otherwise in excellent condition.

Moravian violinist, violist and composer (1812-1865), one of the greatest violin virtuosos of his time and considered a proud successor of Paganini. Ernst was also an accomplished composer and discovered new ways to create polyphonically conceived music for the instrument.  Autograph music quote with 4 bars from an unknown piece, signed by him. Size is 8.25 x 3.4 inches, probably a clip cut from an album page, left border is a bit irregular, 2 folds, minor stains, in overall very good condition.

French violinist (1849-1895) and composer, best known for his opera "Jocelyn", 5 symphonies, and other works. Lot of fourteen documents: thirteen signed autograph letters and one autograph dedication signed by the French composer and violinist. We report an extract as a sample: “…vous m’aviez très amicalement demandé de chanter mes villanelles à la trompette et j’aurais été heureux de vous les accompagner, mais, d’après la note placée au bas du programme de samedi prochain, vous avez dû voir que je ne faisais plus partie de ces séances…”. The lot has a total of 24 pp. In-8. Included: portrait of the composer engraved by the painter Paul Mathey. In-4. ; two autograph letters signed by A. American violinist (1892-1918), a prodigious talent who died at age 26 in WWI, yet left some recordings. After his successful debut at Carnegie Hall in 1915, Hochstein had a short but very successful career on tour. Very rare autograph, large photo also signed by photographer on the mat (probably Isidore York, New York), dated by Hochstein in Rochester, 1912, with a short sentiment.  Size is 9.5 x 14.2 inches, loss of paper on the lower right corner, and minor cracks, otherwise in excellent condition. Very rare.

Hungarian violinist, conductor, composer, and teacher (1831-1907), considered one of the greatest violinists of the 19th century. Gorgeous black and white photo postcard signed by him, dated in 1903. Size is 3.5 x 5.25 inches, in excellent condition.

Hungarian violinist (1831-1907), conductor, composer, and teacher who made an international career; widely regarded as one of the most significant violinists of the 19th century. Nice vintage cabinet photograph by J.C. Schaarwachter signed and inscribed by the violinist, dated in Sheffield, 1892. Size is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, mounting damage on verso, in overall excellent condition.

Russian-born American cellist (1903-1976), considered one of the greatest cello players of the 20th century. Nice photograph signed by him, dated by him in April 1947. Size is 8 x 10 inches, in excellent condition.

Pablo M. M. de Sarasate y Navasqués (1844-1908) was a star Spanish violin virtuoso and composer, considered one of the greatest of the 19th century, whose music is still regularly performed by top violinists.  5-bar autograph music quote on an album page signed by him and dated October 21, 1894. Size is 6.9 x 4.8 inches, minor rust stains in all four borders, in very good condition.

Pablo M. M. de Sarasate y Navasqués (1844-1908) was a star Spanish violin virtuoso and composer. One of the greatest of the 19th century, Sarasate´s music is still today regularly performed by top violinists. Large signed half-tone engraved photo, inscribed and dated by him in Madrid, 1895. Sarasate is shown still young, seated with his violin. Size is 8 x 9.75 inches, even spotted rust, in very good condition. SEE PRICE BELOW. Italian violinist and composer (1755-1824), a famous virtuoso of his time and an important composer for the violin, later in life, opera director. Printed score for his Violin Concerto in G, version adapted for the piano, opus WIa:7, adapted by pianist J.L. Dussek from his violin concerto WI:23. Signed by him over the lower right corner of the front cover page. A total of 22 pages plus front cover, 9.4 x 12.2 inches. Printed for the author and sold by Clementi and Co., London. Some ink annotations by another hand at the top right and near the signature, over the lower right corner, probably former ownership. Probably had original covers that are now missing, in overall very good condition. 

Polish virtuoso violinist (1835-1880) and Polish pianist (1837-1912). Set of two autograph letters, as follows: one letter is written in French (sold untranslated) signed by Henryk, dated in Brussels, March 13th, 1860, about music matters; size is 5.25 x 8.3 inches, 1 sheet, folds, in excellent condition. The second letter is written in German (sold untranslated) signed by Joseph, dated in Brussels, October 6th, 1894; size is 4.8 x 7.9 inches, 1 sheet. Autographs by Henryk Wieniawski are extremely rare! SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

Polish virtuoso violinist (1835-1880), one of the greatest violin composers of the 2nd. half of the 19th century.  Rare autograph music quote signed by him with 2 bars with handwritten text about autographs expressing his concern he can be criticized for any possible orthographic mistake. The music quote is an exercise for violin mastering adding a quote saying "1050 times before breakfast and the same number after dinner", showing his sense of humor. Size is 7.4 x 4.5 inches, probably cut from an album page with part of someone's else autograph on the top, minor rust stains on the edges, otherwise in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an unsigned modern sepia photo postcard of the violinist. Size is 3.3 x 5.25 inches, in excellent condition.

Polish virtuoso violinist (1835-1880), one of the greatest violin composers of the 2nd. half of the 19th century.  4-bar autograph music quote from his piece for violin "Legende" signed by him and dated in Albany, 1873. Size is 5.25 x 3.4 inches, loss of paper over the two upper corners, central fold, in overall very good condition.

Polish virtuoso violinist (1835-1880), one of the greatest violin composers of the 2nd. half of the 19th century.  Autograph note signed, undated (the date 1854 and the place Konigsberg is handwritten on verso by another hand), to Louis Kohler, German composer (1820-1886), a resident of Konigsberg since 1847. Wieniawski announces his recent arrival in Konigsberg, and sends his regards to Kohler. One page, 4.2 x 5.4 inches, in French, sold with a transcription and a translation into English, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an original personal card for both Henryk and Josef Wieniawski, 3.5 x 2.1 inches, in excellent condition.

Belgian virtuoso violinist (1858-1931), composer, and conductor; regarded as "the king of the violin". Autograph letter in French (untranslated) signed by him, no date, to a certain Charlier, with some comments on music. Size is 4.4 x 6.9 inches, 4 written pages in one folded sheet, central fold, minor stains, jagged edges, in very good condition.

Autograph music quote with 3 bars from the Rondó of Lalo's Symphonie Esgagnole signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment in French, dated in New York 1913, to Rene Rice. Size is 7.6 x 6.4 inches, in excellent condition.
