Composer Autograph Manuscripts

English composer, and teacher of harmony and composition. 3-bar autograph music quote from his Symphony in F signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated 1933 at the Royal Manchester College of Music. Size is 5.3 x 3.25 inches, overall rust tone, minor stains, in very good condition. On verso there is an unidentified autograph dated 1936.

German composer and conductor (1810-1882), creator of mostly vocal music. Autograph letter signed, in German, dated in 1847. Four pages (sold untranslated), size is 4.25 x 5.25 inches, in excellent condition.

Argentine composer (1862-1952), pianist, and teacher. Original handwritten manuscript of the score of his work "Piecitas Argentinas para mis Nietos" Op.123.  Size is 10.6 x 13.75 inches, 6 pages, with markings and corrections, folds, and some cracks, in overall very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a large photograph of the composer signed by photographer Zurelli over the upper-right corner, and mounted on a slightly larger piece of cardboard. Size is 12.1 x 15.8 inches, in excellent condition.

American composer (1902-1984), flutist, musical arranger, bandleader, and writer; best known for his musicals "The Music Man" and "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas". Typed letter signed by him, dated February 6, 1980, to Roger Davis: «...As per your phone request (...) we are enclosing herewith a fax copy (...) which we received from Terry MacGregor of the MacNider Museum (...) concerning the possibility of their obtaining for their archives a print of THE MUSIC MAN (...) This would be the one exception to our policy of not allowing non-profit showings of this film (...) We will insist that before it is turned over to them a Letter Agreement be executed with the Museum strictly limiting the conditions under which the film can be shown...».  Size is 8.5 x 11 inches, 1 page, folds, in excellent condition. The Charles H. MacNider Museum is a non-profit, municipally owned institution conceived in 1964 and opened in 1966 in Mason City, Iowa. ALSO INCLUDED are a copy of the same letter with autographed notes by the composer, and a Carbon-copy of the letter by MacGregor.

Austrian composer (1923-2017) and conductor. 3-bar autograph music quote on a card signed by him and dated 1991. Size is 5.8 x 3.9 inches, jagged edges, in excellent condition.

American songwriter (1827-1902) who used several different pseudonyms. Rare autograph letter dated in 1883 by him, about music matters without his signature. At the end of the letter there is a note by the recipient clarifying that the letter was handed unsigned, 2 pages. Each page's size is 5.6 x 8.3 inches, bound together with archival tape, in excellent condition.

English composer (1921-1984). Autograph letter in English signed by him, dated Nov. 10, 1963, to Ms. Carla Hinrichsen widow of the German music publisher Henri Hinrichsen, informing her on the staging of his opera The Captive (1960) which: “....is having two performances at the Guildhall School of Music (...) I would be very pleased if you could come to see this as we have a good cast & the performance should be fair...”.  Size is 5.3 x 6.9 inches, 1 page, folds, letterhead, in very good condition.

American composer (1945-2020). 4-bar autograph music quote from his Capriccio for Organ signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment. Size is 9.5 x 5.9 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian composer (1876-1948) and teacher, best known for his comic operas. Autograph letter in German (sold untranslated), no dated indicated.  Size is 5 x 6.5 inches, 1 sheet, in very good condition.

Italian composer (1876-1948) and teacher, best known for his comic operas. His signature cut (probably the bottom of a letter). Size is 3.5 x 1.4 inches, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is his unsigned visiting card. Size is 4.2 x 2.7 inches, in very good condition.

French-born composer and conductor (1884-1970), mostly known for his work as conductor at the Metropolitan Opera and Teatro Colon.  Autograph music quote on a card with 4 bars of music, signed, inscribed, and dated by the composer in New York, 1920.  Size is 5.3 x 3.4 inches, in excellent condition.

Polish-born composer and pianist (1816-1880). Document with an autograph signature of the Polish composer, with a complete list of music works by the composer, with a separate sheet dedicating it to Prince Louis Napoleon (1856-1879). Different sizes, 4 written pages in total, in overall very good condition (see scans provided).

German composer (1827-1863), who had a reputation as a pianist and saloon music composer. Printed score of his work "Four Musical Sketches for Piano" Op.52 signed and inscribed by him over the upper-right corner, printed in Leipzig, 1859.  Size is 10.7 x 13.6 inches, 9 pages plus soft covers, in overall very good condition. Very rare!

American composer (1870-1954) and teacher. Autograph letter written in pencil and signed by her in 1950. Size is 4.8 x 7.8 inches, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a trifold brochure about her work, dated 1949.

French Romantic composer (1851-1926), who was also a banker. He created a variety of orchestral and choral music. Autograph letter signed, one large sheet folded and handwritten in four pages, written in french (sold untranslated). Each one is 5.2 x 8.1 inches, folds and minor stains, otherwise in very good condition.

American composer (1938-2020) of contemporary music based in New York City who also performed as a pianist and conductor. Autograph note in English with his letterhead signed by him and dated on November 4th, 1995, apologizing for not sending a photo. Size is 7.2 x 10.4 inches, in excellent condition.

French songwriter and artist (1867-1953), whose original name was Leon Fourneau.  Autograph note written in French (sold untranslated) on a card, signed by him.  Size is 5.2 x 3.4 inches, in excellent condition.

Korean-born composer (1917-1995). Card signed by him, mentioning his opera "Der Traum des Liu-Tung" (1965). Size is 5 x 3 inches, in excellent condition.

French composer (1891-1965) well-known for his operettas and songs, some of them written for Mistinguett.  Rare autographed score for his work "Ta Bouche" ("Your Mouth"), a musical comedy in 3 acts, composed in 1921. Boldly signed by Yvain on the back of the index page. Yvain indicates in French that this was his first operetta, and inscribes his autograph, dating it in 1957. Ta Bouche was quite successful: world-premiered in 1922, it was performed over 1,200 times by 1944. Full score, 172 numbered pages, title page with edition information seems to be missing, but this is probably the first 1922 edition by Francis Salabert, Paris. Minor markings inside in crayon, index page with autograph on verso is lose, hard covers probably not the original ones, 9.5 x 12.25 inches, in overall very good condition. Rare!

Hungarian-born American composer (1894-1977), and considered one of the greatest arrangers in Hollywood history. 2-bar autograph music quote signed by him and dated February 3, 1939. Size is 6.8 x 4.3 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian composer (1883-1944), author of over a dozen operas and famous for his successful Francesca da Rimini (1914), still regularly performed.  Album page with an autograph music quote signed by the composer, with four bars from his opera "Conchita" (premiered in 1911), dated in Naples, 1913.   Size is 9.25 x 6.75 inches, small loss of paper over lower right and upper left corners, mounting traces on verso, in overall very good condition.

Size is 5.3 x 3.5 inches, minor stains, in excellent condition.

German composer (1837-1911). Autograph music sheet written by him from an Andantino for violin signed by him as “M. Z.”. Size is 5.6 x 7.1 inches, 1 sheet, ink-markings on verso, in very good condition.

Austrian composer (1843-1922), a big rival in his time of the Strauss family. Autograph note with his letterhead signed by him and dated in Vienna, 1885. Size is 9 x 11.3 inches, folds, minor cracks, otherwise in excellent condition.

German composer (1905-1953), music theorist, and conductor. Typed letter in German (sold untranslated) signed by the composer, dated in Hamburg, 1959.  Size is 8.5 x 11.6 inches, storage holes over the left border, folds, otherwise in excellent condition.
