Item #: GA6960-GX226D

Bohemian soprano (1834-1902), associated with several significant premieres of Verdi operas, including the famous premiere of Aida at La Scala, 1872. Autograph text quote from the aria "O, Patria mia" from Aida, signed by her, dated in Milan in May 1890. This is on one side of this amazing autograph album page.

On verso: Autograph music quote by Antonio Carlos Gomes, a very important Brazilian opera composer (1836-1896) and creator of several operas. Gomes was the only non-European composer who succeeded in Italy during the golden years of opera.

Autograph music quote from his opera Lo Schiavo ("The Slave"), dated by him in Milan in May, 1890 - just months after the world premiere of September 1889 in Rio de Janeiro. Brazil had just finished to abolish slavery (1888) and declared itself a republic without the ruling monarchy (1889), this opera about slavery and freedom was a big success in Brazil, and this La Scala performance is probably its European premiere.

Size is 6.25 x 4.1 inches, in excellent condition - a rare, quite unique piece.
