German composer (1813-1883), one of the greatest opera composers in music history.

Absolutely stunning, large photograph, signed by Wagner, inscribed to his friend Rudolf Ibach (1843-1892). A 3rd generation piano manufacturer, Rudolf was the head of the famous piano maker. Wagner called the Ibachs "tonal helpers to music lovers all over the world". 

An entry in Cosima Wagner´s diary in November 1882 indicates the arrival to the Wagner´s house of a piano by Ibach, and that Richard was very pleased with its gentle tone. This was just 4 months before his death in February 1883. Since this photo was most likely signed around the time Wagner received his new piano, this must be one of the last portraits he signed.

This is a very impressive, massive-size photo of the great composer, in sepia color, oval format, original borders probably cut and mounted on fresh, white oblong cardboard.

Wagner writes "Seinem freundlichen Tongehilfen Rudolf Ibach dankbarlichst. Richard Wagner, 1882", which translates into English as "Most grateful to his kind sound assistant Rudolf Ibach. Richard Wagner, 1882".

Total size is 24 x 31.2 inches!. Oval photo is 19.75 x 27.2 inches at the widest points. Minor repairs, in very good condition.
