All Newest Opera Autographs

Collection of twelve autographed items by prominent opera singers from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, the vast majority are from the 1970s. There is one signature cut, the rest are all 3 x 5 inch signed cards. Signatures are from such leading artists as Carlo Bergonzi, Claire Watson, Evelyn Lear, Renato Capecchi, and Sherill Milnes, among others.  All are in excellent condition, not sold individually.

American tenor (1889-1954), particularly associated with the Metropolitan Opera of New York and for his later career in Wagnerian roles. Wonderful photograph signed by him shown as Canio in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci -an original Mishkin photograph, signed by the tenor with a short sentiment.  Size is 5.9 x 7.9 inches, minor damage on all four corners, ink-stamped on verso by photographer, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a heavily damaged photograph of the tenor signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment, dated 1912.  Size is 5.9 x 7.8 inches, cracks, missing parts, mounted on cardboard.

Celebrated Italian singer (1757-1806), her married name was Brigida Banti-Giorgi, with a very important career most especially in England. Joseph Haydn created operatic roles with her in mind Ticket for a concert in her benefit on March 25th, 1802, signed by her. We believe 1802 was the last year she sang in England, after a very successful run, returning to Italy in the same year and passing away in Bologna in  February, 1806.  Size is 4.6 x 3 inches, overall rust tone, very even, and an address written on verso, with 4 dots of mounting traces. In very good condition - Very rare!

German soprano (1885-1955) who had an international career in Europe and the United States. Album page signed by her with a short sentiment. Size is 5.1 x 6.75 inches, small loss of paper over the upper-left corner, central fold, otherwise in excellent condition.

Russian soprano (1890-1980). Autograph letter signed by her, written in English, about personal matters, no date, three pages; as well as a typed letter signed by her secretary but handwritten by Kurenko on the bottom, dated in Paris, December 1st, 1931. Autograph letter is 5.25 x 5.9 inches, typed letter is 8.25 x 10.3 inches, folds, in overall, good condition. SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

South-African soprano (1877-1966), also known as Ada Cherry Keardon. Autograph letter signed by her with the letterhead of a hotel, dated in South Africa, December 13, 1920, about personal matters.  Size is 5.1 x 8.1 inches, 2 pages written on one sheet, in very good condition.

Turkish-born American Broadway Actress (1880-1968), who participated in several silent films as well. Autograph note signed by her about some pictures, with a letterhead with her initials.  Size is 6.5 x 8.5 inches, 1 page, in excellent condition.

English bass (1820-1867) whose career focused on oratorio and opera. Page mounted on soft cardboard signed by the bass with a long sentiment, dated March 19, 1867; and also by his wife Georgina Ansell (1826-1880). Size is 4.5 x 6.4 inches, in very good condition.  Rare!

Welsh mezzo-soprano (1855-1930) Autograph letter signed by her, dated December 2nd, 1918, about personal matters. Size is 4.5 x 7 inches, 3 pages (in one sheet), folds, minor stains, in good condition.

American bass (¿?-1931) who sang at The Metropolitan Opera, died tragically. Autograph note with a former autograph collector's letterhead signed by the bass, dated in New York, January 13, 1925.  Size is 4.5 x 7 inches, 1 page, central fold, in very good condition.

American baritone (1880-?). Autograph note signed by him, dated March 3, 1914.  Size is 4.25 x 6.9 inches, 1 page, central fold, minor stains, in very good condition.

American soprano (1892-1984). Page with the former autograph collector's letterhead signed by the soprano with a short sentiment. Size is 4.4 x 6.9 inches, creases, in very good condition.

French-American soprano (1887-1931). Autograph note signed by her with a short sentiment in French (sold untranslated), dated 1922.  Size is 4.5 x 7 inches, 1 page, central fold, in excellent condition.

French soprano (1887-1931). Autograph note signed by her, dated on March 14, 1920, thanking a fan.  Size is 4.4 x 6.9 inches, with collector's letterhead, central fold, in excellent condition.

Dutch soprano (1879-1932) and also a music educator. Autograph letter with the letterhead of the Savoy Hotel signed by her, dated in London, on April 2nd, 1913. Size is 6.1 x 8 inches, central fold, in excellent condition.

Italian baritone (1824-1907) who enjoyed a very long career in Europe. Autograph letter signed by him, written in Italian (sold untranslated), dated in Paris, on January 11th, 1868, with his initials embossed at the top of the front page. Size is 5.25 x 8.1 inches , 2 pages (one sheet written on both sides), folds, in very good condition.

German-born British soprano (1831-1877) whose career focused on opera and oratorio. A card signed by her, dated on May 31, 1876, and mounted on an autograph album page.  Size is 5.9 x 3.8 inches, rust stains, in good condition.

American soprano (1897-1966). Autograph note signed by her, responding to a fan, dated in 1924, at the Chicago Civic Opera.  Size is 4.5 x 6.8 inches, in excellent condition.

American soprano (1864-1935), whose career developed mostly in the United Kingdom. Autograph letter signed by her, about personal business, no date.  Size is 4.3 x 6.9 inches each page, 3 pages (in one sheet), in excellent condition.

French mezzo-soprano (1863-1940), and also a voice teacher. Autograph note mounted over a slightly larger piece of white cardboard signed by her, written in English, dated February 26, 1919, about personal matters. Total size is 6.4 x 8.7 inches (note is 6.2 x 8.4 inches), in very good condition.

Spanish baritone (1860-1934) who enjoyed an important international career. Autograph note signed by him, written in English, dated in December 1910, responding to an autograph request.  Size is 4.4 x 7 inches, 1 page, some stains, in very good condition.

American bass (1873-1935) and opera manager. Album page with the letterhead of a hotel signed by him.  Size is 6 x 9.5 inches, folds, in very good condition.

English contralto (1831-1910). Autograph letter signed by her, dated on June 27, 1906, about personal matters.  Size is 4.4 x 7 inches each page, 3 pages (in one sheet), some loss of paper on the third page, otherwise in excellent condition.

Italian superstar tenor (1890-1957), one of the greatest tenors of all time, often regarded as "the second Caruso". Signed postcard with an attractive image on front and his inscription and signature on verso, dated in 1927. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, in excellent condition.

German tenor (1860-1934), autograph note signed, 1 page, dated in Budapest in 1899. Written in German, sold untranslated. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 5.25 x 8 inches, well preserved in good condition.

This group consists of both signed cards and signed album pages, ranging in size from 3 x 5 inches to 3.5 x 6.25 inches.  The opera singers include such prominent artists as Grace Bumbry, Grace Moore, Birgit Nilsson, Leyontyne Price, Shirley Verrett, Regine Crespin, Rita Stevens, and Zinka Milanov, there is also a signature from the actor Leif Erickson. American contralto (1897-1993), highly celebrated in her time. The first black person, American or otherwise, to perform at the at the Metropolitan Opera and an inspiration to many future African American performers.  Signed album page with bold handwriting and signature. Size is 4 x 5.75 inches, in excellent condition.

German baritone and director (1859-1923), well known for his interpretations in Wagner roles and for singing at Bayreuth Festivals, and supported by Franz Liszt. Beautiful signed cabinet photograph, shown in role; photo by W. Hoffert. Size is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, in excellent condition.

Italian soprano (1906-1987), sang widely in Italy and throughout Europe, particularly La Scala. Signed photograph, shown as herself, being interviewed for the 1984 documentary "Il Bacio di Tosca" about the "Casa di Riposo per Musicisti" in Milan, the nursing home for retired opera singers in which she lived (and that had been founded by Giuseppe Verdi in 1896). In this photo she is holding up a framed large photograph of herself in the role of Tosca. Size of these photo is 4 x 5.75 inches, bold signature, item is in excellent condition. 

American soprano (1864-1903), admired by Massenet and Saint-Saens, creator of the role of Esclarmonde in 1889. Autograph note signed on both sides of a 2-sided 3.25 x 5 inch card with her initials as letterhead on top left, in excellent condition. Written in French, sold untranslated. ALSO INCLUDED is an unsigned cabinet photograph, shown as herself, photo by Charles Reutlinger, Paris. Size is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, small cracks on top right and left and mounting traces on verso, otherwise in very good condition.  

Famous American soprano (1864-1903), admired by Massenet and Saint-Saens. Among other roles, she was the first Thais in the world premiere at the Palais Garnier in Paris in 1894. Signed card, dated in 1895. Size is 2.25 x 3.5 inches, in excellent condition. Also included: unsigned mini-cabinet photograph, shown most likely in role, size is 2.25 x 3.75 inches, in excellent condition.  Not sold seperately. 

American soprano (1865-1935), associated with the Opera Comique in Paris who also performed at the most famous opera houses in United States and Europe. Signed card, dated in Vienna in 1899. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 3.25 x 4.5 inches, in excellent condition. 

French mezzo-soprano  (1917-2011), signed postcard photograph, shown as Dalila in Saint Saen's Samson et Dalila. Inscribed. Photo by Lipnitzki photography studio, Paris. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, in very good condition.

Austro-Hungarian-born American tenor (1900-1989), who performed regularly at the Metropolitan Opera for 29 seasons. Nice black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a long sentiment in German, dated in New York, June 1940.  Size is 7.75 x 9.9 inches, in excellent condition.

German baritone (1826-1906) and pupil of Manuel Garcia jr. Nice autograph letter in German (sold untranslated) signed by him, dated in Ostende, 1877.  Four pages (in one sheet), each page's size is 4.9 x 8 inches, central fold, in excellent condition.
