Deluxe limited edition of the piano-vocal score of Porgy and Bess, signed by George Gershwin, Ira Gershwin, DuBose Heyward (both together wrote the lyrics) and director Rouben Mamoulian. Only 250 copies of this first, deluxe edition were signed by the composer, the 2 writers and the producer. Published by Random House, 1935 - Folio, original full red morocco, raised bands, new black leather labels on front cover and spine, top edge gilt, size is 10 x 12.5 inches.

American composer (1898-1937) and pianist whose compositions spanned popular, jazz, and classical genres. 4-page prospect with a playbill announcing an upcoming performance at The Coliseum in 1934. Brochure is 6 x 9 inches, 4 pages long, in very good condition; playbill is 6 x 13 inches, in very good condition.

American lyricist (1896-1983), who collaborated with his younger brother, star composer George Gershwin, to create some highly popular songs. Fine black and white photograph signed and inscribed by him, dated in 1976, shown at work. Size is 7 x 5 inches, in excellent condition.

German tenor (1788-1825), sang in many theaters in Germany, Denmark Holland and also in Paris. Gerstäcker was the first Florestan in Hamburg, and the first Max (Der Freischutz) in Hannover where he died at age 37. Autograph letter signed, 1 page, in German (sold untranslated), 7 x 10.25 inches, dated in Dresden in 1820. Mounted on a piece of paper, has folds and some paper loss over the right border, otherwise in good condition.

Belgian composer (1828-1908) and musicologist, whose output was mostly vocal music. Lot of five autograph documents, four signed autograph letters plus one signed autograph dedication, dated between 1862 and 1899 by the Belgian composer. Letters are addressed to the composer and cellist Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880), requesting theater seats, arranging meetings, and recommending a girl.  SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

Indian activist (1869-1948) who played a fundamental role in the 1947 independence of India. The honorific title of Mahatma ("Venerable") is now worldwide used with his last name.  Handwritten postcard, Gandhi pens the address of an acquaintance receiving this postcard, probably a friend. On verso, now blank, there are still very faint traces of ink writing, unfortunately, the text has been faded by the sun - Front is still in good condition and bears his handwriting. Overall toning and water smudge. Gandhi autograph material is very scarce and highly collectible.  ALSO INCLUDED is an unsigned photo of him on a boat, a modern print. Autograph postcard is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, postmarked in Tenali, India, in 1934. Photo is 4.5 x 6.5 inches, in excellent condition. Due to its rarity and desirability, Mahatma Gandhi is also one of the coolest signatures or handwritten items in the world of collecting famous autographs.
