Amazing set of 6 original large/extra-large cabinet photos, with singers in custom for the premiere of Lohengrin at the Paris Grand Opera, 1891!. Photos are: in 5.25 x 8.5 inches: Ernest van Dyck (1861-1913) as Lohengrin, Rose Caron (1857-1930) as Elsa, and Charles Douiallier (1860-?) as Telramund. In extra-large/imperial size, 7.5 x 12.5 inches: Caroline Fierens (1867-1913) as Ortrud, Jean-Francois Delmas (1861-1933) as King Heinrich and Rose Caron (1857-1930) as Elsa. All in very fine/excellent condition, all photos by Benque & Co., Paris, all unsigned. A very scarce, rare photo document of Wagner operas in Paris.

French violinist (1769-1819) and composer, co-author of the opera "Le Triomphe de Trajan" (1807). Autograph letter in French (untranslated) signed by him, dated in Paris, February 28th, 1819, addressed to the composer and conductor Henri-Joseph Rigel (1741-1799): “…J’ai aujourdhui chez moi le Poete et le Musicien qui doivent traduire pour la Semaine Sainte une partie de l’oratorio de l’Abbé Italien…”.  Open size is 9.6 x 7.2 inches, two written pages in one folded sheet, folds, creaes, some tape traces, in fair condition.

French painter (1769-1819). Set of two autograph letters in French to the soprano Caroline Branchu (1780-1850): "... I've just come back from the stagecoaches, I don't know yet exactly what day we won't be able to get seats for these happy 6-wheeled carriages...", and "... I cannot express to you how much my heart bled to leave you, after having remained for a few days in your intimacy and having been showered with all kindness, attention and friendship for you...".  Both letters are 5 x 7.8 inches in size, 1 written page each, some creases and folds, in overall good condition (see scans provided). American ethnomusicologist (1915-2002), known for his field recordings of folk music. Set of two very interesting typed letters in French (untranslated) signed by him as “Alan” and “Alan Lomax” in blue ink, dated both June 11, 1958. After many years working on field recordings in Alto Adige, Sardinia, Sicily, and other Italian regions, Lomax writes to his colleagues proposing the publication of some of their recordings.
