Autograph letter in French signed by him, to Leon Escudier, editor of Verdi's works and Director of the Theatre Italien in Paris, about professional matters. Autograph letter in French (untranslated) signed by him, dated in Utrecht, May 1, 1855, where he addresses the flute manufacturer Godfroy, asking for an exchange of flutes: “…je vous voudrais bien demander d’avoir la bonté de me permettre de la renvoyer et d’avoir en échange pour elle le flûte avec 12 clarets que vous m’avez envoyé…”.  Size is 5.4 x 8.4 inches, 1 written pages, folds and creases, overall age toning, dust and rust stains, in overall good condition.

She met Hitler and eventually was arrested and tortured by the Gestapo for being a spy, ended up imprisoned in a British war camp, where she sang for prisoners. Margery Myers Booth (1906-1952) was a British mezzo-soprano who emigrated to Germany during WWII and became a spy. Arrested by the Gestapo in 1944 and tortured, she was later released by the liberating army. Not being recognized for what she did after her return to London, Myers Booth emigrated to New York where she died of breast cancer in 1952, at age 46.
