Large collection of copper plate engravings of actors and actresses shown in costume from the late 1700s and early 1800s, and also various theater scenes plus 30 line etchings and some other lithographs, for a total of 310+ items. Star Italian conductor (1867-1957), considered one of the greatest of all times. Baton that belonged to the great director, given to the librarian of the NBC Orchestra, James Dolan. James B. Dolan (1915-2006), was the librarian for the Boston Pop Orchestra under Arthur Friedler, became the NBC Orchestra under Toscanini in 1942. Dolan befriended Toscanini and took care of the scores as well as the maestro´s batons, touring with the NBC Orchestra in the 1950s. Read more about this ---> HERE Also included is an autograph letter by Toscanini´s son Walter, sent to Dolan a month after Toscanini´s death in January 1957, with the envelope. Both items, baton and autograph letter, come from the estate of James Dolan, and are provided with a certificate of authenticity from us. Baton is 11.25 inches long, has a cracked tip (it was normal for Toscanini to break batons during rehearsals), while the autograph letter is 5.6 x 8.75 inches, in excellent condition.

Photographs of soldiers in uniform and with swords, staged in 3 scenes. Circa 1870s, two of the photos are 5 x 7 inches, verso is blank, the 3rd is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, and shows photographer´s name ("Winsor & Whipple, Photographers, Olean, NY). All in very good condition.

VANITY FAIR was a weekly periodic published in London between 1869 and 1914, its articles were about the current political, social, literary and financial news. Each issue featured a bound-in lithograph depicting an influential personality of the day. Lithographs were often accompanied by text which extolled or lamented the virtues or vices of the person/s being featured - and they are today highly collectible. Each original Vanity Fair lithograph is 10.5 x 15.75 inches, is original, and comes with a copy of the corresponding text. All lithographs have mounting traces (tape marks) on verso. Star Italian opera composer (1813-1901), a central opera composer in all Europe for 50 years, starting in 1840.  Original fine oil painting by Joseph A. Rossi, size of painting is 20 x 23.8 inches, on a slightly larger canvas, with margins and ready to be framed. Sold unframed, in a roll, in excellent condition. Light reflection is not present in actual painting, artist´s signature ("J.A. Rossi") is clearly visible over the lower left corner. 

Famous Italian fashion designer (1946-1997). Fine black-and-white photograph signed by him. Size is 6.9 x 9.3 inches, in excellent condition.

Great lot of original theater playbills from Vienna theaters, all from the period 1875-1930, a total of 100. Many playbills are from the period 1900-1910, most are one page, 9.25 x 11.5 inches, some are in smaller size, a few have 4 pages. In various conditions, some have folds and cracks, overall in good condition. Sold as a lot only - See scans.

German pedagogue (1890-1972), composer, conductor and pianist. A brilliant pianist and teacher, Zuckmayer had to leave Germany in 1936 and established in Turkey, where he continued his career teaching and training music teachers. Autograph note signed by him, in French, on a postcard mailed in 1924. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, in excellent condition.
