Unsigned Opera Photos

French-American coloratura soprano (1898-1976), one of the most celebrated stars of the Metropolitan Opera for nearly 30 years. Group of 57 unsigned photos of her both in various operatic roles, including in Lakme, Barbiere di Siviglia, and Fille du Regiment, as well as herself, including with celebrities such as Eleanor Roosevelt. Most are 8 x 10 inches, some stamped on verso by photographer, several are 7 x 9 inches. All in very good condition. Not sold individually, only as a lot.

Also included: 1 small playbill from her 1931 Met debut performance of Lucia also featuring Beniamino Gigli, Giuseppe De Luca, and Ezio Pinza. Italian opera composer (1858-1924), the greatest creator of verismo for over 30 years until his death from cancer. Nice set of 5 photo postcards of the composer (modern prints, except one). Group of 38 unsigned photographs taken from the Royal Opera, Covent Garden in London, the majority being of performers shown in role. Among the famous artists included are Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Joan Sutherland, Ljuba Welitsch, Kiri Te Kanawa, Victoria de Los Angeles, Tito Gobbi, Mario del Monaco, and Sena Jurinac. There is also a photo of Queen Elizabeth II attending a ballet gala with French prime minister Charles De Gaulle. Sizes range from 6.25 x 8.25 inches to 8.25 x 10.5 inches, most are 8 x 10 inches.10 of them stamped on verso by photographer, all are in excellent condition.

Italian soprano (1873-1951), particularly associated with the Italian repertory, later in life became a voice teacher (Clara Petrella was one of her students). Large signed photo, shown in role, an original photo by Hermann Mishkin, New York, mounted on a photographer mat to a total size of 8.75 x 13.4 inches, in very good condition.

Unsigned photograph of the soprano, an original by photographer Dupont (signed by him in pencil over the lower-right corner). Size is 4.9 x 6.9 inches, minor silvering, otherwise in very good condition.

Superstar Italian soprano (1922-2004), extremely famous for her large, voluminous voice and tonal beauty. She primarily focused on verismo roles and the lyric dramatic repertoire. Epitaph from her 2004 funeral (written in Italian) and funeral card accompanied by beautiful unsigned photo, shown as herself in later years. Size is 3 x 4.5 inches, beautifully preserved item in excellent condition.

French baritone (1669-1741), a member of the Academie Royale de Musique in Paris, who performed over 80 roles before retiring in 1729.  Unsigned photo etching or engraving, shown as himself. Image alone is 3.75 x 5.25 inches, total item is 7.75 x 9.75 inches, some brown spots outside of the image and on verso, but in generally good condition.

Swedish-born American dramatic soprano of Hungarian descent (1918-2006) who spent most of her career in the United States and Germany, hailed as one of the leading Wagnerian heroic sopranos of her generation.
