All Newest Opera Autographs

Italian soprano (1854-1920), daughter of famous baritone Felice Varesi, she later opened a singing school in Chicago following her retirement from the stage.  Autograph note signed, 1 page written in English, dated in Chicago in 1894.  Size is 8 x 11 inches, small tear on top left outside area of handwriting and signature, otherwise in excellent condition. 

French bass (1851-1914), one of the most acclaimed basses of the Golden Age of Opera. Signed album page, dated in 1904. Bold and clear handwriting and signature. Size is 4.5 x 7.5 inches, in excellent condition.  

American soprano (1865-1952), admired for her beautiful voice, had a very successful career in New York, London and Paris. Signed album page, signed as "Emma Eames Story" reflecting her then-marriage to the painter Julian Russell Story, dated in 1905, with additional text on verso. Size  is 4.5 x 7.5 inches, in excellent condition.

German mezzo-soprano (1826-1894), dramatic actress, and teacher of singing and theatrical performance who won great distinction in Europe during the third quarter of the 19th century. She was a niece of the composer Richard Wagner and created the role of Elisabeth in Wagner's Tannhauser in 1845, less than a week after her 19th birthday. Autograph letter signed, 3 pages, written in German, sold with a typed English language translation. Size of each page is 5.5 x 8.5 inches, in excellent condition. Rare!

Italian tenor (1865-1943) and one of the most important Italian tenors of his day, having premiered many title roles during his career.  Signed postcard (not a photograph of him), containing a drawing of the auditorium of La Scala Milan. This drawing is by Arti Grafiche Galileo, Milan. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, some wear on various edges, otherwise in good condition. 

Scottish soprano (1874-1967) with a substantial career in France and America in the first third of the 20th century. Short greeting note signed by her on a page attached to an album page with a small portrait below.  Total size is 6.75 x 9.9 inches, mounting traces on verso, in excellent condition.

Polish tenor (1850-1925) and opera star. Card signed by him with a photograph of him as Raoul in Meyerbeer's Les Huguenots, attached to a page. Total size is 6.75 x 9.9 inches, in excellent condition. ON VERSO there is a signed card and a half-tone photograph of the Dutch bass-baritone Anton van Rooy.

Italian tenor (1870-1940) known internationally for his association with the bel canto repertoire. Card signed by him, dated in New York, on March 4th, 1907, attached to an album page with a photograph of him.  Total size is 6.6 x 9.8 inches, in excellent condition. ON VERSO there is an unidentified signature on a card along with a photograph of an unidentified artist.  

American baritone (1857-1921) and American contralto (1871-1947). Fine card signed and dated by the baritone on February 6th, 1901, attached to an album page.  Total size is 6.75 x 9.8 inches, in excellent condition. ON VERSO there is a signature cut with a short sentiment by the celebrated contralto, dated in 1907, attached to a half-tone photograph of her.  

French bass (1851-1914), considered one of the most acclaimed singers active during the 1880s, 1890s, and early 20th century. Fine card signed by him, dated on January 21st, 1901, attached to an album page with his portrait.  Total size is 6.75 x 9.9 inches, in very good condition.

American mezzo-soprano (1892-1977). Beautiful photo postcard signed and inscribed by her with a short sentiment, shown as herself. Size is 3.3 x 5.4 inches, minor damage over the lower-right corner, mounting traces on verso, otherwise in very good condition.

Welsh soprano (1842-1897), signed embossed 1 page document, written in London. Size is 4.5 x 7 inches, mounting traces on verso, otherwise in excellent condition. 

Famous Polish coloratura soprano (1858-1935), signed album page, written in French, dated in Buffalo in 1904. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 4.75 x 7.5 inches, in excellent condition. Also included: 1 unsigned postcard photograph of her, shown as herself, photo by Hermann Leiser, Berlin. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, in excellent condition. Not sold separately. 

Latvian concert tenor, celebrated Lieder singer and famous singing teacher (1854-1931).  Autograph letter signed, 2 pages, written in German, sold untranslated. Size is 4.75 x 7.75 inches, in excellent condition. 

American mezzo soprano and later soprano (1867-1950), autograph note signed mounted on paper, 1 page in English, written on the stationary of the Hyde Park Hotel, London. Original note size is 5 x 6.75 inches, full item is 8 x 11 inches, in excellent condition. 

Austrian coloratura soprano (1833-1891), signed album page, dated in 1878, written in German, sold untranslated. Size is 5.25 x 8.75 inches, in excellent condition. 

Bulgarian soprano (1913-1996), typed letter signed,  composed in Vienna on her official letterhead, dated in 1989. 1 page, written in English, with typed text and a handwritten signature (signed as "Ljuba"). Full unfolded page Size is 8.25 x 11.75 inches, some folds but otherwise in excellent condition.  Also included: a one page textual quote from Richard Strauss's Salome, her most celebrated and legendary role. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, in excellent condition. American baritone (1911-1960), signed envelope, size is 3.5 x 6 inches, in excellent condition. 

French soprano (1879-1939).  Autograph letter signed, 1 page, written in French, sold untranslated, dated in 1901. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 5.75 x 7.5 inches, in excellent condition.

German soprano (1802-1877), born Katharina Sigl, with the last name Vespermann reflecting her marriage to the baritone Wilhelm Vespermann in 1827.  Autograph note signed written in Paris in 1831, 1 page, written in French, sold untranslated. Size is 4.5 x 7.25 inches, in excellent condition. 

Collection of nine autographed items by prominent opera singers from the 1890s's to the 1930s including signed cards, signed album pages, signature cuts, and one signed record label. Includes such leading artists as Antonio Scotti, Giuseppe de Luca, Jean de Reszke, Lauritz Melchior, and Pol Plancon, among others. Sizes range from 2.25 x 2.5 inches to 7 x 7.5 inches. Most have very clear handwriting and signatures and all are in extremely good, well-preserved condition. See scans - not sold individually.

German soprano and opera director (1881-1936), was the first Octavian in the world premiere performances of Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier in Dresden in 1911.  Autograph letter signed, 2 pages, written in German, sold untranslated, dated in 1909.  Each page is 6 x 8 inches, small creases on edges, but otherwise in very good condition. 

French soprano and composer (1829-1910). Autograph letter signed, 2 pages, written in French and sold untranslated. Signature is on the bottom of the first page but there is some additional text on the following page. Size is 5.25 x 8.25 inches, very small tear at the very top of each page (outside of the written area), but otherwise  in excellent condition.

American tenor (1913-1975), major star of the Metropolitan Opera in Italian opera repertoire for 30 years.  Autograph letter signed, 2 pages written in English on the letterhead of the Hotel Quirinale, in Rome in 1970. Contains a lot of interesting information regarding his upcoming scheduled performances as well as his overall availability. Size is 7.5 x 11 inches, in excellent condition. 

Bohemian tenor (1807-1886), leading heldentenor much admired by Richard Wagner, created the title roles in that composer's Rienzi and Tannhauser. Signed card, written on both sides of a 2 x 3.75 inch card. Written in German, sold untranslated, some rust on edges not affecting handwriting and signature. Also included: unsigned photo postcard portrait, shown as himself. Size is 4 x 5.75 inches, not sold separately. Rare vintage item! 

Star Italian tenor (1850-1905), chosen by Verdi for the title role in the world premiere of Otello in 1887. He also was one of the first Italian tenors to have left recordings. Signed card, dated in Chicago (possibly in 1893), signed as "F. Tamagno". Size is 2 x 3 inches, in excellent condition. Also included: unsinged postcard with a print photo, shown as himself, size of 3.5 x 5.5 inches, slight traces on edges, otherwise in excellent condition. 

Baritone (1847-?), signed album page, written in English at the American Opera Company, dated in 1886. Bold signature (signed as "A.E. Stoddard"). Size is 8 x 11 inches, vintage item in excellent condition.

Austrian baritone (1850-1916), also known as "Josef" Staudigl, son of the Austrian Bass of the same name. Autograph note signed, dated in Vienna in 1905. 1 page, written in German, sold untranslated. Bold and clear handwriting and signature. Size is  5.25 x 6.75 inches, in excellent condition.

German-born American soprano (1888-1952), known for her many recordings and close association with composer Richard Strauss. Signed album page, dated in 1936 which also contains a half-tone photo of her, shown as herself. Size is 5 x 6.5 inches, in excellent condition. 

Belgian soprano (1834-1907) (whose name is also spelled as "Marie Sass"), who performed in the French premiere of Tannhauser (1861), L’ Africaine (1865) and Don Carlo (1867).  Autograph letter signed, embossed, composed in Neuilly, France, 2 pages, written in French, sold untranslated. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 3.75 x 6 inches, in excellent condition. Also included: unsigned vintage print, shown in role, in a portrait. Size is 7 x 9 inches, slight rust but in otherwise good condition. Not sold separately. 

Famous French tenor (1859-1940), well-known in his time for his performances of heroic roles in French and Italian opera.  Signed record label for a recording he made of the aria "La Mia Letizia" from Verdi's I Lombardi. Size is 3 x 3 inches, in excellent condition. Autographs of Escalais are very scarce so this is a quite valuable vintage item!

Italian star tenor (1888-1965), signed album page (front page of a book), dated in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1927. Size is 6.5 x 9 inches, some rust on edges of page not affecting clear and bold handwriting and signature.

Includes such leading artists as Beverly Sills,  Blanche Thebom, Ezio Pinza, Grace Moore, Helen Traubel, Jennie Tourel, John Charles Thomas, Lauritz Melchior, Lawrence Tibbett, Leontyne Price, Pilar Lorengar, and Tatiana Troyanos, among others. Italian star tenor (1888-1965), signature cut, inscribed and written in Rome. Size is 3.25 x 9.75 inches, in excellent condition. 

Italian baritone (1868-1930), appeared in world premiere performances of Giordano's Andrea Chenier in 1896 and Leoncavallo's Zaza in 1900. A postcard signed by him, written in Buenos Aires, dated in 1903. Bold and clear handwriting and signature. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, in excellent condition.

American soprano (1873-1950), autograph letter signed, 2 pages written in English, written in Milan. Bold and clear handwriting and signature (signed as "M. Saltzman-Stevens".) Each page is 5.75 x 6.5 inches, slight tear at bottom of each page, otherwise in excellent condition.

Celebrated French soprano (1756-1813), whose real name was Anne-Antoinette-Cécile Clavel, and who was best known by her stage name Madame Saint-Huberty or Saint-Huberti. After her retirement from the stage and her second marriage, she and her husband were murdered in England by a servant.  She appeared in the world premiere productions of Gluck's Armide in 1777 and Salieri's Les Danaides in 1784, as well as in a great many other lesser-known operas. Very rare autograph letter signed, 1 page (of 4 folded pages), written in French, sold untranslated, dated in 1785. Bold handwriting and signature. Size is 6.5 x 8.5 inches, small rust and stains, but otherwise in very good condition. Very rare and valuable historic item!  

Spanish contralto (1897-1965), also known as also known as Aurora Buades-D'Alessio.  Signed photograph, shown in role, inscribed in Toulouse, dated in 1938. Size is 9 x 12.5 inches, slight paper loss on far edges of the cardboard and mounting traces on verso, otherwise in very good condition. 

Dutch light opera singer (1863-1932), signed cabinet photograph, shown in role, inscribed. Photo by Rockwood, New York. Size is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, very slight paper loss on top right and bottom left corners, otherwise in excellent condition.

Italian tenor, signed photograph, shown as Cavaradossi in Puccini's Tosca, extensively inscribed, and dated in 1920. This attractive vintage 4.5 x 6.5 inch photo is mounted onto soft cardboard with a total item size of 6.75 x 8.75 inches, signature is at the bottom of the photo, inscription on the surrounding cardboard.  In very good condition.

Argentinian born tenor, signed photograph, shown as Cavaradossi in Puccini's Tosca. This 3.25 x 4.5 inch photo is mounted onto soft cardboard, handwriting and signature is on the bottom half of the cardboard, below the photo. Photo contains blind stamp of photographer Carlo De Marchi, Milan. Total item size is 7 x 10.25 inches, some bullet holes on the cardboard and the bottom corners of the photo are somewhat loose from the cardboard, discount reflected in price.

Bass-baritone (1882-1960), signed postcard photograph, shown in role. Stamped on verso by Ethel M. Eadon photo studio, Sheffield, England. Size is 3.5 x 5.25 inches, in excellent condition.

German bass-baritone (1858-1928), also known as Carl Perron, a Kammersänger of the Dresden State Opera, he created leading roles in three operas by Richard Strauss – Jochanaan in Salome, Orest in Elektra, and Baron Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier. Beautiful signed cabinet photograph, shown as himself, inscribed and dated in 1901. Photo is by F. Hantzsche photo studio, Dresden. Size is 5.25 x 8.5 inches, in excellent condition.

Belgian baritone (1879-1965). Signed photograph, shown in role (possibly Escamillo in Bizet's Carmen) inscribed. This 4 x 6.25 inch photo is mounted onto cardboard, total item size is 5 x 6.75 inches, small tear only on verso, otherwise in excellent condition.

Italian tenor (1893-1964), active in the early to mid-twentieth century.  Signed photograph, shown in role (possibly the Duke in Verdi's Rigoletto), dated in 1925. Blind stamped by photographer Carlo de Marchi, Milan.  Photo size is 7 x 11 inches mounted to soft cardboard, total item is 8.75 x 12.5 inches, in excellent condition.
