I hope that, despite my absence, you have been well received by the St. Martin's Post...". Size is 4 x 5.2 inches, 1 page, in excellent condition. B. To a director: "... After meditating on the savings that I am very anxious to promote for you, I arrive, for 14 musicians, at the sum of 1420 – (...) One page, 4.5 x 7 inches, to a doctor (Abel Desjardins), who had recently treated his wife`s father (her name was Lilly Texier, married since 1899), about an invitation for dinner. Sold with transcription, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a modern photo print of a portrait of the composer, perfect for framing together with this letter. French composer (1862-1918), and one of the most prominent figures of the impressionist music. Autograph letter signed, dated in Paris in 1906. Two pages joined in bifolium, in French, with his address printed at the top of the first page, sold untranslated. Debussy writes "Excuse me for not having answered immediately on the subject of your charming communication from your subscriber. This man is sinister, and why does he call me M. Claude? As if we have to watch for Monsieur Croche, the two of us? Otherwise all this is of no importance, Monsieur Croche has seen plenty of others and has never despaired of human stupidity...". As a music critic for the magazine Le Revue, Debussy had created an imaginary visitor called "M. Croche" (croche is the French word for a quaver note). This character is argumentative and his ideas about music are full of ambiguity. Letter is likely to his close friend Louis Laloy, an eminent musicologist and critic, co-founder of Le Mercure Musical, which had just announced it would be printing "Interview with Monsieur Croche". Bifolium with 4 pages, total size is 10.6 x 7.1 inches, each page is 5.3 x 7.1 inches, small tear with loss of paper on the upper left corner, otherwise in very good condition. Bold, clear and full signature "Claude Debussy".

Short handwritten and signed note by the famous French composer (1862-1918), inviting a friend (Arthur Hartmann) to his house, dated in Paris in 1914. Hartmann was an American violinist and composer (1881-1956), a close friend of Debussy for many years, and later wrote a biography of the French composer. Size is 4.25 x 6 inches, verso was used to mail this note to Hartmann, a translation from the original French is provided. In excellent condition.

Addressed to famous Swiss-born composer Ernest Bloch, Debussy tells him "your letter particularly interested me and I would be happy to see you". Bloch spent some time in Paris and met Debussy, who had an important influence in his early works.
