American novelist (1872-1956), film director, military officer, and composer. An original envelope attached with a sticker signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment (postal markings indicated the year 1936). Size is 5.3 x 3.3 inches, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a small card with his facsimile (printed) signature. Size is 2.4 x 4.25 inches, in excellent condition.

French poet (1802-1885), novelist and dramatist of the Romantic era, one of the most famous writers in French language. Autograph letter, written on 2 pages of a bifolium, to a Mr. Durmont, in French (sold untranslated). Hugo writes "our famous trial of 1832...Le Roi S´Amuse". He is asking about the location of his contract, and is requesting its return. Total size is 9 x 7 inches, but folded into a small bifolium with 4 pages that are 4.5 x 7 inches, with the letter on 2 pages (front and verso) and the text "Mr Durmont" in a 3rd. Bold, clear signature at the end, a repaired tear on the blank page and the page where the recipient is, minor folds, in overall very good to excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a beautiful photograph of Victor Hugo, a modern print, 4.8 x 7 inches, perfect to frame with this autograph letter if desired.

French poet (1802-1885), novelist and dramatist of the Romantic era, one of the most famous writers in French language. His book "L´Anee Terrible", signed by him on the title page, first edition, reprint 1874 (original was in 1872) by Michel Levy Freres, Paris, 280 numbered pages, re-bound (no original covers), 7.5 x 10.75 inches. Leather spine and covers showing wear, firm spine and binding in excellent condition, spotted rust on pages but in overall very good condition.

Catalan soprano (1851-1951), unsigned cabinet photo, by  A. Esplugas, Barcelona, shown as herself. Size is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, in very good condition. Some fading otherwise in very good condition. 

British-born American composer (1871-1950). Nice sepia photograph signed and inscribed by him in 1918 on verso (signature and inscription on the front were made by another hand). Size is 3.75 x 5.75 inches, mounting traces on verso, in very good condition.

German geographer, naturalist and explorer (1769-1859), who made very significant contributions to several fields of science including botany, zoology and geophysics. After 5 years (from 1799 through 1804) of travelling through Latin America, Humboldt published a series of large volumes with valuable information, later was the first to propose that humans were changing the world climate.   Autograph letter signed, to British writer Helen Maria Williams (1759-1827), in French, sold with a transcription and translation. One page, mail stamp on verso indicates the year 1812, addressed to Williams. Humboldt praises her poetry. Size is 7 x 9.25 inches, folds, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a photo of a portrait of Humboldt, the famous 1843 painting by Joseph Stieler, stamped by photographer.

Austrian composer (1778-1837) and virtuoso pianist. Autograph letter in French (sold untranslated) signed by him in 1830, about a concert. Size is 5.1 x 8.1 inches, 1 written page, spotted rust stains, in overall good condition. Hummel's autographs are very rare to find!

German composer (1854-1921), widely known for his opera "Hansel und Gretel". Autograph music quote on an album page with 4 bars of music from an unknown piece signed and dated by the composer in Frankfurt, June 18, 1915, matted with a half-tone photograph of the composer.  Music quote's size is 4.3 x 4.4 inches, photo is 3.2 x 4.2 inches, for a total size of 7.4 x 13 inches, in excellent condition.

German composer (1854-1921), best known today for his opera Hanser und Grete. Signed photo postcard, shown in his studio, with a shortened signature on verso and a short music quote also on verso. Size is 3.3 x 5.3 inches, has creases and glue residues on front, priced accordingly. See scans.

Indian-born British popular singer (b.1936), active since 1956. Fine color promo photograph signed by him. Size is 7.9 x 9.9 inches, in excellent condition.

This lot of 5 Hungarian Opera signed backstage photographs includes mugshots by soprano Maria Takcas, baritone Istvan Gati, mezzo Jolan Sauta, and baritone Tomas Csurja. Each photograph was taken by the photographer E. Weiszeuberger and measures 3.5 x 5 inches. All items are in excellent condition and are not sold separately.
