German composer (1830-1908) and organist, who worked for the Dresden Court and composed several operas and masses. Fine cabinet photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment on verso dated in Dresden, 1900; photograph by Wilhelm Höffert (Dresden). Size is 4.2 x 6.4 inches, in overall very good condition.

French opera impresario, who was also the director of some important theaters such as the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin in Paris. Beautiful cabinet photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment on verso dated 1903; photograph by H. Rentz & F. Schrader (St. Petersburg). Size is 4.2 x 6.4 inches, spotted rust stains, in overall very good condition.

Russian classical violinist, violist, and conductor (1908-1974), considered one of the most famous string performers of the Soviet Era and one of the preeminent violinists of the 20th century. Set of 2 nice black-and-white photographs, here shown in rehearsal as conductor. Size is 4.75 x 7 and 7 x 4.75 inches, in excellent condition. SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

German composer (1798-1859) and chapel master. Autograph letter in Italian signed by him, dated in Dresden, May 17, 1845, to baron Wilhelm von Taubenheim (1805-1894), concerning his opera Yelva (1828): "... On the last occasion of your presence in Dresden, when I had the honor of being introduced to you, I took the liberty of reminding you of the promise of 10 ducats made to me by your predecessor, Mr. Leutrum, for my music of the "Yelva". (...) I have already written to Mr. Reggetore [Heinrich] Moritz and to the Kapellmeister [Peter Josef von] Lindpaintner that I have no connection with Castelli, and that I am not willing to make a check on him..." Russian baritone (1845-1920). Rare cabinet photograph signed and inscribed by him, dated June 29, 1895. Photograph by Ivan Diagovchenko (Moscow). Size is 4.2 x 6.3 inches, some dust stains, wear over the corners, in overall very good condition.

Austrian dancer (1859-1937), debutant at the Vienna Hofoper in 1878, wife to the writer and art collector Andreas Dillinger (1849-1919). Beautiful cabinet photo of her by Atelier Adèle (Vienna). Size is 4.3 x 6.8 inches, evident wear and creases over the borders, ink writing on the front and back, dirt stains over the borders, in very good condition.

Danish composer (1859-1939), known mainly for his operas, being "The Witch" his first major success. Rare unsigned carte-de-visite (CDV) photograph of him by Sophus Juncker-Jensen (Copenhagen). Size is 4.1 x 6.4 inches, in very good condition.  

French composer (1857-1934). A beautiful cabinet photo of the French composer by photographer Pierre Petit (Paris), mounted on cardboard. Total size is 5.6 x 7.6 inches, some fading over the top and bottom, otherwise in very good condition.

Russian violinist (1873-1948), a Gold medalist at the Moscow Conservatory, and later a concertist on tour. Fine black-and-white photograph of him, here shown at a young age with his violin.  Size is 5.75 x 8 inches, silvering around borders, otherwise in excellent condition.

Star American actress, model, and singer (1926-1962), one of the most celebrated sex symbols in the 1950s and early 1960s. Terrific photograph signed by Monroe, inscribed to "John". John Virzi was a photographer/paparazzi who collected autographs signed in person by those he took pictures of.  Size is 8.2 x 10 inches, in very good condition.

Italian virtuoso violinist (1817-1894) and composer, the only known pupil of Nicolo Paganini. Beautiful original CDV photograph, unsigned, a photo by Fritz Luckhardt, Vienna. Size is 2.5 x 4 inches, in excellent condition.

Daughter of star Italian Conductor Arturo Toscanini (1900-1991). Autograph letter in Italian signed by her, no date, to her father Artur Toscanini, about family matters: "... I give Mr. Todd this enlargement, I ask him to give you lots of news from us – and bring all our love – I hope you too will want to let yourself be taken by this machine that reproduces colors and disappears surprisingly. (...) In fact, I'm sending you a letter from you and a funny photograph taken in your studio – with the dreaded Verdi...". American artist (1907-1993) and entrepreneur, best known for her boldly colored linen patterns and scarves signed "Vera" and featuring a ladybug. Autograph letter in English signed by her, dated June 15th, no year specified, to Arturo Toscanini: “…I am sending you the bookseller’s receipt for the Burrell “Wagner” book. I hope you have been able to look at it by this time and that you are pleased with your purchase. I want to tell you again how much joy your concerto has given me; everything I have heard under your direction has the music, and both Ernest and I are longing to hear you play some Tchaikovsky. Either the 5th or 6th Symphonies or the Romeo and Juliette Fantasia or the Francesca da Rimini. We love the music and we never hear it played as we imagine it…”.
