Unsigned program for the world premiere of Vittorio Giannini's opera "The Harvest" at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in 1961, starring the American mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne as Lora, and the Welsh baritone Geraint Evans as Lem, conducted by the composer himself. Peruvian-American singer (1922-2008), noted for her extreme vocal range; one of the best-selling in Latin America. Attractive black-and-white signed and inscribed photograph, shown in costume, size is 8 x 10 inches, several creases and bends, otherwise in very good condition.  

Legendary German Wagnerian soprano (1872-1932),  signature cut matted with a vintage postcard photograph of her as Isolde in Richard Wagner's Tristan und Isolde.  Signature cut is 1.5 x 3 inches, the photo is 3.25 x 5. inches, total item size is 7 x 10 inches, small mounting traces on verso, beautiful well preserved vintage item in excellent condition. 

Photograph of a scene from a production of Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier, signed and inscribed by the director of that production, Nat Merrill, American stage director and opera director (1927-2008), who was the resident stage director at the Metropolitan Opera from 1956-1985. He also served as  the Artistic Director of Central City Opera in Central City Colorado from 1959-1966 and in 1981 founded Opera Colorado.  Stamped on verso by photographer Larry Laszlo, size is 5 x 7 inches, in excellent condition. 

French writer and dramatist (1854-1937), knight of the Legion of Honor. Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated in Paris, July 30, 1885, to the art critic Henry Lapauze, informing "... I immediately wrote to [Henri] Pagat. I hope that he has kept a copy of his short story and that he will be able to send it back to you (...) I am currently in the middle of my work, but as soon as I have finished the play I have in progress, I will write a short story for you, which I hope you will like...".  Open size is 10 x 8 inches, 2 written pages in one folded sheet, some smudges, folds, overall rust tone, in good condition.  

French pianist (1825-1879), composer, music critic, and teacher. Autograph letter in French (sold untranslated) signed by him, dated February 14, 1866, to a fellow musician: "... I see with regret that your concerts fall just on the same day as the musical evenings that I give every fortnight at my house and that I will thus be deprived of the pleasure of hearing you...". Size is 4 x 5.1 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and verso), with monogram letterhead, in very good condition.

French actress (1920-2016), French Screenwriter (1900-1973), and French actor and cellist (1911-2005). Page signed by the three artists on the occasion of a wedding of a friend. Size is 8.3 x 10.8 inches, some dirt, in overall good condition.

Italian composer (1814-1891), appointed as director of appointed as director of Théâtre des Italiens in Paris by Napoleon III. Autograph letter in Italian (sold untranslated) signed by him, dated in London, June 10, 1874, to the impresario Innocenzo Canedi, concerning a trial against the soprano Madame Gaston Lacaze and other music issues: "... I am very sorry for all that has happened, but amid three versions which I do not appreciate and which are rather contradictory, I cannot pronounce who is to blame - I shall see this on my return to Paris when I have spoken with the Lacazes - But of all the ways what is clear is that the affair is lost even to me - but let us be clear that if you think you can bring Madame Lacaze to trial if I do not succeed in what you want from mine I intend to participate in the mediation as we are intended to do so. Now I believe it is my duty that the 1st Tenor [Alessandro] Bettini (husband of [Zelia] Trebelli) is free from engagements from August (next) onwards, needless to say, his voice is always fresh, and he knows and has sung 40 operas and that at least here in London it is those old men there, who lead the boat forward – All the young men we were talking about at the beginning of the Season are finished..." French violinist (1820-1900). Autograph letter in French (sold untranslated) signed by him as "J. Armingaud" dated in Paris, June 18, 1866, thanking for the interest in his protégé, whose addressee, a general, would like to talk to Barbier. Size is 5.1 x 8 inches, 2 written pages, folds, in very good condition.

Belgian clarinetist and conductor (1798-1850); and Belgian conductor and composer (1801-1873). Autograph letter signed as “Les frères Bender” (presumably handwritten by Jakob), dated in Paris, March 31, 1819, to a newspaper editor, sending: "... the programme of our concert next Friday, I hope you will insert it in your newspaper...". Size is 7.8 x 9.3 inches, 1 written page, in overall very good condition.   ALSO INCLUDED is an autograph note with the concert presentation.

English composer (1787-1855), who became famous for his song "Home Sweet Home" and other vocal works. Autograph note in English signed by him, dated August 14, 1930, to William Watts  (Secretary of the Philharmonic Society in London): “...As I left the neighborhood of Vauxhall, please, for the present to address to me at...”. Size is 4.3 x 7.1 inches, 1 page, folds, overall rust stains, folds, creases, in overall very good condition.

French politician (1831-1913), writer, journalist and politician, founder of the of the newspaper “L’Intransigeant” in 1880. Autograph letter in French (sold untranslated) signed by him, dated 1908, to the French writer Jeanne Loiseau-Lapauze, wife to the art critic Henry: "... I have no news of the famous portrait, but I suppose it is installed in your little Palace. Judging by your charming verses, I guess your loan is at least as attractive as that of Fontainebleau...". Open size is 9.6 x 6.6 inches, two written pages in a folded sheet, overall rust stains, folds, otherwise in very good condition.

French writer (1802-1870), music critic, and singing professor at the Marseille Conservatoire.Set of two autograph letters in French (sold untranslated) signed by him, as follows:  A. Marseille, January 12, 1864, asking many questions to a gentleman, among them: "... Would you be so kind as to give me the answers to the following questions: (1) Is the Teatro de la Scala subsidized by the city or by the state? 2° Is the room given free of charge to the director and if not, what is the rent of the room?...".  Size is 5.1 x 8 inches, 4 written pages, folds, creases, evident tear at the center, rust stains, in overall very good condition. B. Marseille, February 27, 1864, probably to the same gentleman of the previous letter: "... I confess to you that I was in great need of this information for the questions I deal with every day in the Semaphore, especially now that the decree on the freedom of theatres in France has just thrown some disturbance into it...".  Size is 5 x 8 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and verso), in overall very good condition. Austrian musicologist and writer (1855-1941). Set of two autograph letters in German (sold untranslated) signed by him, as follows: A. Vienna, October 22, 1891, to Thaddeus Wiel:  “Receive my best thanks for your great kindness in providing me with a Bolognese Catalog through Mr. Busi...”. Size is 4.3 x 6.9 inches, 4 written pages, folds, tape restoration on pages 3 and 4. Envelope included. B. Vienna, May 12, 1912, with letterhead, [secretary hand]: "... Prof. Gasperini informs me that you are now more involved in the work for the "Corpus Scriptorum de Musica" than he. Therefore, I take the liberty of addressing you and asking you in what condition the work in Italy is now and whether the steps and resolutions taken on the occasion of the congress have been successful...".  Size is 5.9 x 9 inches, 2 written pages, in Italian (sold untranslated), in very good condition. Austrian musicologist and writer (1855-1941). Autograph letter in German (sold untranslated) signed by him and dated April 1, 1894, to Albert Schatz, concerning music literature. Size is 5.4 x 8.5 inches, 3 written pages, overall rust stains, in very good condition.  Envelope included. Albert Schatz (1839-1910) was a German music dealer with a lifelong interest in opera and its history. In 1873, when Schatz assumed ownership of the Musikalienhandlung Ludwig Trutschel Nachfolger in Rostock, Germany, he confirmed his intent to write a comprehensive history of opera through the study of primary sources. Research for the book necessitated extensive travel throughout Europe to collect libretti including many first and early Italian, German, and French editions from the 17th and 18th centuries: in the end, his collection totaled 12,000 operatic and 238 oratorio and cantatas librettos. 

Italian baritone (1916-2010), who was equally effective in comedy and drama, whose vocal longevity allowed him to sing Falstaff at the Met at 69. Very nice black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated 1955, shown as Falstaff in Verdi's last opera; photo by Velani.  Size is 5 x 7 inches approx., in excellent condition.  

Italian baritone (1896-1969) who had an active international career from 1917 until his retirement in 1955; made several recordings for HMV and Columbia Records. Gorgeous black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment dated 1937; photo by Vicari (Turin). Size is 4.5 x 6.25 inches, in excellent condition.

French composer (1784-1832). Set of two signed documents by the French composer, as follows: A. Certificate dated 23.5.1828 signed by the composer and the Royal Notary François Dubois to be used only for the veteran's fund of the Royal Academy of Music. Size is 6.7 x 27.5 inches, blind-stamped over the left border, in very good condition. B. Printed certificate valid completed by hand as a pension, dated 1828, granting the amount of 65f on a total of 300f to the composer. Size is 9.2 x 7.3 inches, folds, creases, few smudges, in overall very good condition. Autograph letter in French (sold untranslated) signed by him, probably from 1904, addressed to a friend where he expresses, among other things, "... Father Lebonnard continues to produce a great effect in front of the audience of the Comédie and the spectators of the following day continue to ratify the success of the premiere..." Size is 5.2 x 8.1 inches, 1 sheet written on both sides, folds, creases, in overall very good condition.

French poet (1857-1926), painter, writer, art critic, and director of the magazine "La Revue Lyrique et Choréographique". Set of three autographs letters in French (sold untranslated) signed by him and addressed to the art critic Henry Lapauze, as follows: A. Marseille, 1886, sending an issue of the magazine and requesting Lapauze to write an article to be published. 1 written page. B. Marseille, Dec. 2, 1886, saying, among other things, "... I am a poet before I am a dilettante and in a few months I intend to offer you a volume of verse...". 4 written pages. C.
