Italian composer (1882-1962), creator of several operas as well as orchestral, choral and chamber music. Nice portrait of the composer by M. Castagnini on a photo postcard signed and inscribed with a short sentiment on verso by the composer, dated December 20, 1901. Size is 3 x 4.5 inches, facsimile signature on the front, in very good condition.

Italian cellist (1880-1952) and conductor. Photo postcard signed and inscribed by him dated in Rome, Nov. 11, 1937.  Size is 5.5 x 3.5 inches, with light foxings, and foldings due to framing at the angles, otherwise in good condition.

Italian conductor (1906-1954) who made himself known for conducting at the age of four at the Trocadéro in Paris and at the age of six at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. Black-and-white photograph signed by him, dated 1913, shown at a podium. Size is 6.25 x 9.5 inches approximately, in excellent condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an unsigned black-and-white photo postcard dated 1912, here shown as a kid in a conducting pose. Some autograph lines on verso by a third hand with the program of the concert at Teatro Costanzi (Rome) on November 11, 1912. French composer (1784-1846) and conductor. Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated in Paris, September 6, 1837, to François-Joseph Fétis (1784-1871), director of Brussels Conservatory: "... Towards the end of January last, M. Pacini published Duos, of which I have the honor to send you a copy. The welcome of Baillot and several distinguished artists determined me to have them advertised in the musical gazette. Mr. Schlesinger, whom I met by chance (for he is invisible at home), promised to send me two copies, which I had deposited in his shop...". Size is 7.6 x 9.9 inches, 1 written page in one sheet, folds, spotted rust stains, wax-sealed, in very good condition.

French composer (1819-1898), musicologist, and traveler. Lot of three autograph letters in French signed by him, as follows:  A. February 23, 1863, to Mr. Lefebvre, professor at the Collège de Cambrai:  "I think I have some chance this January of getting a little article published in Le Siècle on the education of attention...". B. Vendredi November 27 (no year), to the secretary of the Paris Conservatory Alfred de Beauchesne (1804-1876): "... I have to thank you for your interest in Miss Huebaut. Mr. [Pierre-Auguste] Grosset has heard her and he thinks she has a good and beautiful voice...".  C. Paris, November 12, 1880, to the Director of the Gymnasium, asking for "... two tickets in my favor for tonight's performance...". French author and playwright (1834-1908), best known for his collaborations with the works of Bizet and Offenbach. Autograph letter in French signed by him (sold untranslated), dated August 27, 1881.  Size is 4 x 6.5 inches, two written pages in one sheet (front and verso)  overall light rust tone, in excellent condition.

German conductor (1823-1902) and composer. Set of two autograph letters in German signed by him, dated 1891 addressed to Giovanni Tebaldini (with an autograph letter as an answer on the third page), concerning music matters and music literature. Both letters are 5.5 x 8.5 inches in size approximately, 3 written pages in total, plus one sheet with a reply to the first letter, folds, overall rust tone, in very good condition. American politician and diplomat (1900-1965), served as the 31st Governor of Illinois from 1949 to 1953, was the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in 1952 and 1956 and later served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations from 1961 until his death in 1965. Typed note signed on his 1952 presidential campaign stationary with handwritten signature. Also included: the original letter to which he responded (see scans). Size of typed note is 6 x 9.5 inches, several folds, in excellent condition. 

French actress and singer (1875-1956), and a very famous entertainer in her time, whose real name was Jeanne Bourgeois. Signed photograph, inscribed, an original photo by Teddy Piaz, Paris, size is 7 x 9.5 inches, in excellent condition.

Star French stage actress (1844-1923) who starred in some of the most popular French plays of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Unsinged cabinet photograph, shown in the title role of Edmond Rostand's L'Aiglon, a role she created in the work's world premiere performances in March 1900 at her namesake Theatre Sarah Bernhardt in Paris. Photo by Melandri, Paris. Size is 4.25 x 6.5 inches, some paper loss on bottom right and slightly faded image, otherwise in very good condition.

Prominent American writer and editor (1931-2023) who was at various times the editor-in-chief of the Simon & Schuster and Alfred A. Knopf publishing houses and of The New Yorker magazine. Typed note signed on the New Yorker letterhead with handwritten signature, rejecting a proposed article solicitation for the magazine, dated in 1990. Size is 4.5 x 7.25 inches, very small crease on top right and one fold, otherwise in excellent condition. 

American-born French dancer, singer, and actress (1906-1975); who became the first black woman to star in a major motion picture in 1927. Signed publicity brochure with signed photograph on the cover page, dated in 1970. 4 page brochure with text in Czech. Size of each page is 6 x 8.75 inches, in very good condition.

Signed program for a performance in Germany by the star dancer and singer in which she was accompanied by the German-Austrian pianist Peter Kreuder (undated and no performance venue indicated). Size is 8 x 11.5 inches, full program with all pages and covers, in very good condition.

French conductor (1840-1905), violinist, and composer, whose conducting career focused mostly on opera. Autograph note on a carte-telegramme signed by him, dated 1884 [postal marks indicate Dec 84], to the French composer Léo Delibes, concerning the talent of the stage singer Lucien Fugère, performing in Delibes’ opera “Le roi l’a dit” (1873): "... In telling you that I am almost as happy as you are with your Lucien, I will not surprise you, but what I also wish to tell you is with what sympathy and satisfaction the news was learned last night at the orchestra...". Size is 5.1 x 2.9 inches, overall rust tone, in excellent condition.

French composer (1824-1879) and music critic. Set of two autograph letters signed by the French musician, as follows:  A. To Mr. Aymard: "... I hope that, despite my absence, you have been well received by the St. Martin's Post...". Size is 4 x 5.2 inches, 1 page, in excellent condition. B. To a director: "... After meditating on the savings that I am very anxious to promote for you, I arrive, for 14 musicians, at the sum of 1420 – (...) It is understood that in this combination I am obliged to write all the music you would need for the Ambigu and to stage and conduct the works...".  Size is 5.1 x 8.1 inches, two written pages in one sheet (front and back), overall rust tone, folds, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is an autograph letter signed to Mr. Delaunay as an article for the operetta “Un 1er Avril” (1862), words by Henri Rochefort and Adrien Marx and music by Debillemont. 

French composer (1771-1832), dramatist, and military. Autograph letter signed by him, dated May 21, 1809, to the French dramatist and novelist Hyacinthe Dorvo (1768-1839): "... My poor Dorvo, I have very bad news to hear. Yesterday I went to our meeting of Bretons on leaving you, and as the elders arrived in the room destined for you, I was talking about you, I had prepared the ways quite well, several had promised me to confer with the president (...) but what we did not foresee was an invitation made by our commissioners to Mr. de la Fayette..." Size is 4.6 x 7 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and back), folds, creases, in overall very good condition. Envelope included.

Autograph letter signed by him, dated in Paris, 1882, to the music publisher in Turin Giudici & Strada (whose archive is now preserved at the Conservatorio of Piacenza) about some publications of works by Henry Ketten (1848-1883).  Size is 5.1 x 8.1 inches, 1 page, folds, letterhead, in excellent condition.

French composer (1846-1904), best known for his operettas. Set of two autograph letters signed by the French composer, as follows: A. Paris, February 6 (no year), to a gentleman: "... I have just read the Italian translation you made of my V.... You have given to my work what it lacked, that is to say, charming words...". Size is 4.9 x 7.9 inches, 1 page, overall age-toning, in excellent condition. B. Paris, September 23, 1880, to a gentleman: "I saw M. Vauthiers at Dieppe and spoke to him about your monologue. He didn't seem willing to do it...". Size is 4.1 x 6.3 inches, 1 page, with blue crayon marks over the upper-left corner, otherwise in excellent condition. SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

Paris, April 15, 1891, to a colleague, sending his best regards after a meeting. Size is 4.4 x 6.9 inches, 1 page, central fold, in excellent condition.B. English composer (1852-1935), conductor, and pianist. Autograph note on a visiting card signed in pencil by him, no date, to a gentleman: “...There is a dreadful scandal in London at the way S... has been treating me...”. Size is 3.6 x 2.1 inches, in very good condition.

French violinist (1787-1862), composer, and music teacher who invented a musical language called La Langue Musicale Universelle. Set of two autograph letters signed by the French violinist, as follows: A. Paris, May 28, 1847, to Mr. Mahérant, "Master of Requests and Deputy Director of Personnel and Military Operations": "... Allow me to beg you to grant me a moment's audience and you will oblige the one who has the honor to be with high consideration...". Size is 6.9 x 8.8 inches, folds, overall rust stains, in very good condition. B. March 19, 1849, to Mr. Monfrein: "... I still have recourse to your kindness to extricate me from a painful uncertainty relative to the journey to Orleans. On the 6th of March, M. [Alexandre-Eugène] de Chancourtois wrote to me to inform him of the prize that had been made with the musical societies that had called me. I replied to him at once, as he seemed to wish in his letter, and told him that the last of these companies was that of Le Mans, which had offered me 500 francs for... that... Hugot and for me. But I added that because of the circumstances and to smooth out any difficulties that might arise, we would be content with 400 francs...". Size is 5.2 x 8.1 inches, two written pages in one sheet (front and verso), folds, in very good condition. French music teacher (1811-1887), pianist, and composer, among others, of a series of elementary études for piano students. Collection of four autograph letters in French signed by him between 1843 and 1854. Here is a short extract as a sample: To Monsieur Fétis: "... I come sir, to ask you for a fresh proof of this same benevolence. You will receive at the same time as this letter a copy of my Studies, which I beg you to accept..." Autograph note in German on a postcard signed by him, dated in  Berlin, 1909, to Wilhelm Barlösius in Berlin, writing that he unfortunately won’t be able to meet him. Size is 5.4 x 3.5 inches, some dirt, in overall very good condition.

German conductor (1902-1987), best known for his interpretations of the music of Anton Bruckner, Carl Orff, and Johannes Brahms, among others. Gorgeous black-and-white photo postcard signed by him with a short sentiment dated 1940, shown in performance. Size is 3.5 x 5.5 inches, soft folds due to framing on each corner, in overall very good condition.

French conductor and violinist (1838-1910), a great champion of Hector Berlioz' music and contemporary composers.  Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated 1881, to M. Girard: "... Thank you for sending your articles about Portugal. I've already received and I'm going to have the ballet of the Tempest performed. I'd be delighted if madame Moll would come here to make it heard...". Size is 4.1 x 5.1, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and back), folds, overall rust tone, in very good condition.

Belgian conductor (1885-1960) and violinist, who became a refugee during WWI in Great Britain. Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated in Brussels, October 18, 1938, to maestro Tebaldini: "... I have not received the consignment you are talking about, i.e. the transcriptions (Frescobaldi-Bassani-Scarlatti-Legrenzi) I hope the consignment is not lost. As soon as I have a moment to see the Rapsodia di Pasqua, I will write to you...". Size is 8.3 x 10.6 inches, 1 written page, letterhead, folds, in very good condition.

French composer (1787-1870), son of the harpsichordist Charles-Henri Plantade (1764-1839), founder of the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire. Rare autograph note written in French (in the third person) signed and dated in Paris, December 21, 1818, where he asks his correspondent, Mr. Durandeau, to take an interest in one of his protégés, whose request he had already strongly supported the previous year. Size is 6.4 x 7.7 inches, 1 page, folds, in very good condition.

French violinist (1858-1935), conductor, musicologist, and music historian. Set of three autograph letters in French signed by him, as follows:  A. July 14, 1922, to a colleague: "... the unpublished letters of Mozart and Beethoven, which I have communicated to the French Society of Musicology, unfortunately, do not belong to me. I indicated the source from which I had drawn these precious documents...". Size is 5 x 8.3 inches, two written pages in one sheet, folds, letterhead, in very good condition. B. September 28, 1922, to a gentleman: "... As far as I am concerned, I have only a small collection of autographs which, however, are not lacking in a certain interest..." Size is 5.2 x 8.1 inches, two written pages in one sheet (front and verso), in very good condition.
