American country music singer (1927-2007) known for his flashy Nudie and Manuel suits and blond pompadour. Nice color photograph signed by him. Size is 7.9 x 9.9 inches, in excellent condition.

American announcer (1923-2009), actor, and comedian; active between 1957 and 2009. Nice black-and-white photograph signed by him. Size is 7.9 x 10.1 inches, in excellent condition.

American comedian (1935-2005), active between 1959 and 2001. Fine color photograph signed by him, here shown in role. Size is 7.9 x 10.3 inches, in excellent condition.

American actress (1929-1989), best known for her performance in the TV Series "Gunsmoke"; active in films and TV between 1950 and 1989. Beautiful photograph signed and inscribed by her with a short sentiment, shown probably i a film. Size is 8 x 9.9 inches, some stains, crease over the bottom, otherwise in very good condition.

German TV actor (1927-2008) and director of radio dramas; active between 1956 and 2008.  Fine promo brochure of the film "U 47 - Kapitanleutnant Prien" (1958) signed by him on the first page, here shown as Kapitan Günther Prein. Size is 7.25 x 10.4 inches, 4 pages, folds, in fair condition.

Italian cellist (1880-1952) and conductor.  Signed photograph, inscribed by him dated in Bologna in 1926.  Photo size is 6.5 x 7.5 inches, mounted on cardboard (signature is on the cardboard directly beneath the photo), total item size is 9.75 x 14 inches, with some creases at the bottom corners of the cardboard, otherwise in good condition.

Hungarian soprano (?1887-1941), signed photograph, shown most likely in role, signed and inscribed in Berlin. Photo by Kaiserl Koning photogaphers, Berlin. Size is 8 x 12.5 inches, small bullet hole near the top and mounting traces on verso, otherwise in very good condition.

American tenor (1895-?).  Signed photograph, shown as himself, dated in New York in 1927.  This is a 4.25 x 6 inch photo mounted on soft cardboard, signature is at the bottom of the cardboard underneath the photo. Total item size is 8.5 x 12 inches, mounting traces on verso, otherwise in excellent condition

American baritone (1880-1931),  signed photograph, shown as himself, inscribed and dated in 1920.  Photo by Baker Art Gallery, Columbus, Ohio.   Size is 8 x 10 inches, in very good condition.  

Italian tenor (1881-?), an early rival of Enrico Caruso, made several recordings. Signed photograph, shown as himself, inscribed and dated in New York in 1911. Size is 4.5 x 7.5 inches, mounting traces on verso, otherwise in excellent condition. Rare!

Italian actress who also performed in opera (1840-?), signed cabinet photograph, shown in role, inscribed with additional text on verso, dated in Bologna in 1889. Photo by Emblemi and Ballarini photographers. Size is 4 x 8 inches, some cracks at the top and on the edges of the photo and bullet holes on the bottom not affecting image and signature, otherwise in good condition.

Italian soprano (1871-1959) whose real name was Maria Clotilde Gigli. Signed vintage cabinet photograph, shown as herself. Photo by Rembrandt photo studio. This is a 5 x 7.25 inch photo mounted on a cabinet, total item size is 5.25 x 8.25 inches. Small creases on bottom edges of the cabinet not affecting the photo or signatures itself, which are in excellent condition.

Italian baritone, whose career developed between 1893 and 1906. Signed photograph, shown in role (likely as Athanaël in Massenet's Thais), inscribed and dated in Rome in 1907.  Photo size is 6.25 x 8.25 inches, mounted on solid cardboard, total item size is 7 x 9.5 inches, in excellent condition. 

Belgian Countess (1873-1937) whose full name was Geneviève de Liedekerke de Pailhe. Beautiful signed cabinet photograph with bold handwriting and signature. Photo by Fabronius, Brussels. Size is 5.25 x 8.5 inches, slight paper loss on top left and other corners not affecting image and signature, attractive vintage item in very good condition.

English composer (1917-2009) whose output includes six symphonies and six string quartets and other works. Autograph letter in English signed by him, dated Nov. 14, 1959, to his correspondent mentioning a reprinting of one of his ballet: “...A piano version of “Punch and the Child” is being printed at Group 5 for you to send abroad...”. Size is 6.9 x 7.9 inches, 1 page, folds, in very good condition. ALSO INCLUDED is a signed autograph letter on cardboard, no date, thanking his correspondent “...for the clarinet pieces...”. 

British composer and writer (1917-2003). Autograph note in English signed by him as “Reg. S. Brindle”, dated 1964, to his correspondent sending “...another title-page for Creations Epic (1964 ca.) to substitute the one which arrived spoiled...”. Size is 7.9 x 9.9 inches, in excellent condition.

French singer (1899-1979), who worked in close artistic association with Francis Poulenc. Autograph note in French signed by him, no date, as follows: "For Lyda – my very 'aristocratic' friendship (Jean Pierre) – and all my admiration for the impeccable musician.". Size is 4.4 x 6.7 inches, 1 page, tape residues over the right border, otherwise in very good condition.

American bass-baritone (1927-1975), who was acclaimed for his great abilities as a singing-actor, and specialized in roles that evoked villainy and terror. Beautiful black-and-white photograph signed and inscribed by him with a short sentiment, here shown as Mephistopheles in Gounod's opera "Faust" at The New York City Opera; photo by Beth Bergman. Size is 7.75 x 10 inches, in excellent condition.

German poet and writer (1800-1833), brother of the composer Giacomo Meyerbeer. Autograph letter in French signed by him, dated April 29, 1824, to a certain Mr. Pougine "... Mr. Pougine, a member of the Institute and of several other learned societies...", concerning some poetical texts he sent.  Size is 4.7 x 7.1 inches, folds, creases, some dirt smudges, in very good condition (see scans provided).

American composer (1905-1964), known for his musical directed by Orson Welles in 1937 and his brilliant adaptation of Kurt Weil' "Three Penny Opera".  Short typed letter signed by him, dated May 3, 1953, to Edwin Hughes, of the National Music Council: «...Ordinarily I should be happy to join in the symposium you have outlined in your letter of April 28 to me. But I am in the country (where your note reached me), finishing my new opera. I fear it will be impossible for me to do anything else for several months...». Blitzstein was probably working on an opera titled Reuben, Reuben (1955).  Size is 8.4 x 10.8 inches, 1 page, in excellent condition.

Grandson of Louis XIV of France and his mistress Madame de Montespan, known from birth as the Duke of Penthièvre (1725-1793). Document signed by the duc of Penthièvre, dated “Paris le 14 Fevrier 1738”. The Duc, who succeeded the Count of Toulouse (d. 1737) when just 12 years old, certifies that  "... François Léon Hirt was in the house [of my father].. for fourteen years as master of his music, and that he has fulfilled its duties with applause and to the satisfaction of his master..." etc. Interesting document for the history of music in France in the century of Bach and Mozart. Nice seal at the bottom of the page. Size is 8.2 x 12.7 inches, 1 page, folds, smudges, creases, in good condition (see scan provided).

Star Czech tenor (1873-1946), very popular in his time as an opera singer as well as an actor/comedian. Gorgeous black-and-white photograph signed by him, dated 1921, here shown as Radamés in Verdi's opera "Aida". Size is 3.4 x 5.3 inches, in very good condition.

German bass (1838-1903), and Austrian soprano (1870-1944). Vintage cabinet photograph of both artists by photographer Atelier (Vienna). Size is 4.1 x 6.4 inches, in very good condition.

French composer (1767-1844) and violinist. Vintage lithograph of the composer by Francois Delpech. Size is 7 x 11 inches, facsimile signature, some rust marks over the four corners, in very good condition.

Italian conductor (1920-1956), considered an heir to the Toscanini tradition before his untimely death in an air crash. Fine card signed by him and dated September 1950, printed "Teatro alla Scala" on verso (not shown). Size is 5.3 x 3.4 inches, in excellent condition.

English-born American composer (1808-1896) and cellist, author of numerous ballads. Autograph letter in English signed by him and dated in November 16, 1882, to a certain Fred M. Steele, as follows: «...Since my last letter [I’ve] been confined to the house. Totally prostrated but though bodily prevented from work, “The Brain!” has not been idle – Have written much & composed considerable, & one of the Subjects I propose sending you, that you may find a well trained Baritone! Or Tenor Robusto for its rendition. It is not a common piece creation * I wish it was sung with Artistic effect & who so represents it to the Public, to him! Will I inscribe the composition...».  Size is 4.9 x 6.2 inches each page, 4 written pages in one folded sheet, in overall very good condition (see scans provided).

French composer (1775-1834) mainly of operas, often called "the French Mozart". Fine cabinet-card photographic portrait by Bruckmann (Berlin) from a painting of the composer by Eugen Felix. Size is 4.4 x 6.6 inches, in very good condition (see scan provided).

Austrian singer and composer (1890-1962). Fine black-and-white photo postcard by Karl Winkler (Vienna) signed by the artist, shown at the piano holding some scores, dated on verso 1946 with 8 bars from his song “Mutter, Ich habe an dich gedacht” (1917).  Size is 3.4 x 5.4 inches, in excellent condition.

English composer (1886-1957) of light music. Typed letter in English signed by him, dated January 1st, 1938, to the BBC Orchestra’s percussionist Frederick Herbert Wheelhouse, assuring that if he “...ever take on an orchestra of my own I will certainly get into touch with you”.  Size is 7.9 x 9.8 inches, 1 page, central fold, some creases, with letterhead, in overall excellent condition. Original envelope ALSO INCLUDED.

French composer (1798-1876) and pianist. Autograph letter in French signed by him, no date, addressed to a certain Mr. Verny, as follows: "... I can't go to your house tomorrow, and not Adam's on Friday. Let's make the most beautiful arrangements for Friday, March 20th, and unfortunately, Mademoiselle Venu's indisposition has come through..." Size is 5.2 x 8 inches, 1 page, folds, creases, some ink spotted dots, in overall very good condition.

French soprano (1818-1870). Printed document signed by her, dated June 1, 1845, issued by the Théâtre Royal de l'Opéra Comique, stating the wages of the actors for May 1845.  Size is 7.4 x 9.5 inches, some spotted rust, in overall very good condition.

Italian soprano (1831-?). Autograph letter in Italian signed by her, dated 1854, to a composer:  "... I am beyond all words sorry not to be able for the autumn season of 1854 to propose to Mr. Pagliano, his beautiful and already approved opera, but since I have already proposed more than one to the above-mentioned, and for which he is already in very close negotiations with the respective owners (...) also for the Carnavale, my impresario has fixed all the operas in perfect agreement with the management of that theater in Verona...".   Size is 5.2 x 8.1 inches, 2 written pages in one sheet (front and back), folds, overall rust tone, in very good condition. Alajmo performed at Teatro La Fenice in Venice to create the role of Violetta in the premiere of La Traviata in Venice in 1853. Verdi objected and opted for Fanny Salvini-Donatelli. Alajmo later performed this role among many others in her repertoire.

English composer (1923-2014), conductor, trumpeter, and teacher. Set of two autograph letters in English signed by him, as follows: A. 13th January, 1960. Butterworth writes to the arranger H. Swarenski about an important imminent meeting regarding some financial problems. Size is 7.9 x 9.8 inches, 1 page, folds, creases, dirt spots, in overall very good condition.  B. 19th April 1967. Butterworth writes to the widow of the German music publisher Henri Hinrichsen (1868-1942, partner in Peters edition since 1894), Carla Hinrichsen: “...There seems to be a fair number of inquiries for “An Embassy Suite”, and I wonder if it might be possible to publish it fairly soon?...”. Size is 8 x 10 inches, folds, in overall very good condition. SOLD TOGETHER, NOT SOLD SEPARATELY.

Italian composer (1857-1953), a pupil of Eugenio Terziani at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and among the founders of the Bach Society in 1903. Autograph music quote with 3 bars signed and inscribed for him with a short sentiment. Size is 6.75 x 2.5 inches, overall rust tone, in very good condition.

British conductor (1889-1983), whose early engagements included the Royal Opera House and Sergei Diaghilev's ballet company. Typed letter in English signed by him, dated September 24th, 1965, to Peter Wiener: «...It is indeed splendid that you have kept the flag flying for all this time, and your 21-year-old child is to have such a very exciting year...». Size is 6.7 x 7.8 inches, 1 page, with letterhead, in excellent condition.

Group of 2 signed photographs, one a 4 x 6 inch photograph signed by Josephine Baker, American-born French dancer, singer, and actress (1906-1975) who became the first black woman to star in a major motion picture in 1927, shown in costume for a performance at the Folies Bergere cabaret music hall in Paris, and the other a 4 x 6 inch signed photograph of her with her fourth husband Jo Bouillon, a French composer, conductor, and violinist (1908-1984) who enjoyed particular prominence in the 1950s, this photo is signed by Bouillon only and is by the Chateau des Milandes photography studio, Dordogne. Both in excellent condition, not sold separately. 

Fascinating set of vintage items associated with the star French stage actress (1844-1923) who starred in some of the most popular French plays of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These historically unique items include one 4.25 x 6.5 inch vintage cabinet photograph of her, shown in role, a photo by W & D. Downey photographers, Newcastle on Tyne, along with a payment receipt from the London & County Banking Company, dated in 1894, a 1881 unsigned playbill from the Carltheater in Vienna (7.25 x 9.25 inches on solid cardboard), an 5.75 x 8.5 inch autograph letter signed from her son Maurice, dated in Paris in 1935 (written in French and sold untranslated) on the stationary of the Theatre Sarah Bernhardt (some holes in the paper but not affecting text and signature), and an unsigned 3.5 x 5.5 inch postcard half-tone photograph by Reutlinger, Paris, shown as herself. In mostly very good condition, not sold separately.
